Daft enough to run out of fuel now 04 factory wont start even with a fresh tank of fuel.Turns over fine but no signs of firing.Any tips where to start?

Hiya bud it will start eventually ..............when the fuel gets though the system but I would get some jump leads hooked up to a car that is running cos you could possibly drain your battery enough that ain't got a good spark...........hit the starter button for 5 second periods only or u risk the possibility of overheating the starter motor if cranking for a while.........

where did you get that ' Fresh Fuel ' ? ( Not from the neighbors 5L can that was intended for a 2stroke and been sitting in the garage for 12 month I hope )
Just asking because just yesterday a brand new chainsaw would not start ? So I recommended ' fresh ' fuel and wallaa problem solved.

Removed the tank completely and taken out the pump thats fitted inside.Reconnected the pump via the block connectors and pressed start, nothing its silent so guess the pumps shafted or could it be the wiring? Fecked if i know!!

Before you disconnected anything............when you switched the ignition on did u hear a whirring noise, that is the fuel pump priming if not as you have taken your fuel pump out try finding the pos and neg terminals remove ur fuel pump and hook it up to a good battery only just touch as it will spin over real quick if its any good...........make sure you get the polarity right!!!!!!!

No whirring from tank pump the only sound is somewhere under the airbox. Will try and find pos n neg but as i said its a block connector.Cant believe all this from simply running out of gas.

I had the same problem before after running out of gas with my pickup truck. I presume that the fuel pump ' killed ' itself when running ' dry '.

Put a positive and negative to the pump via a battery and it spins fine, checked the fuses and all the connectors all fine so problem remains no power to the pump via ignition.I am no wizz when it comes to electrics but a mate reckons the ecu could be the cause?Any advice please.

Hey guy's I have the same fu$*ing problem.....spent the better part of 5 hours this past saterday, jump leads and the lot.... ok so here are the steps i folowed...

1) check spark.... take all four spark plugs out, clean, plug into coil, put to frame and swing. All plugs are fine and sparking so put them back!!
2) loosend main fuel line from tank into intake assembley, switch on ignition, pump comes on, fuel everywhere....lol ok so there's fuel and fuel pressure!!
3) check every single fuse on the damb thing, all ok!!!
4) plug in self diognostic, comes up with only one number....." 1 ".... witch means the throtel position sensor is in the corect position, can be 0 or 1 but not -1!!

ok so now what!!!!!????!!! standing with 5L of fuel and matches.... ready for a bonfire!!!!

PLS HELP!!!!!!!

Ok i have just read in another thread that the stand switch might be pissing about, I will def go and have a look at this as mine has been fiddeld with, as well as my neutral switch cuz my neutral light stay's on all the time no matter wat gear i'm in!

fuel pump is switched by a relay via the tip over switch.

check the tip over switch rattles and is mounted up the right way and swap the pump relay with another one from say the fans etc.

chances are the pump stopped rather than you running out of fuel even though you may have been low and you thought it was because it had run out.

Ok sorry sould have put that in *** well...tip over switch checked, opend to make sure the rubber bit on the inside is still in the corect place, reconected and placed the right way up!!!! fuel pump does come on to prime itself when the ignition is switched on and there is fuel pressure all the way up to the T.B, disconected the line at the T.B and primed the pump and ended up with fuel all over the place!!

I was repsonding to the original poster more so than you.
Your tip over switch is fine otherwise the pump wouldn't run.

You have spark and fuel so i suspect your issue is more related to turn over speed or flooding.

turn off the fast idle and hold the throttle wide open and turn it over in 15 second bursts a few times. Just be ready to close it quickly if she catches.

Try lifting the tank and spraying some ether in the stacks thenhit the starter if its gonna fire this will get it going!! ........I use electrical contact cleaner just as flammable and always gets my old mowers goin when they been standing for ages!!!!

AAAAALLLLLLLRIGHT!!!!!!! 2stroke!!!! ur the man!!! got sothing caled "quickstart" gave that a bash as instructed by one guru 2sroke.....and bang of she go's!!!!
idleing a bit quick, sorted that, warm it up to 45 deg C ad more coolent, warm up to 60 deg C.....hey jump on go for a blitz around the block......first road fine, take corner, second road fine, keeping rev's down, take corner ok now open up..............BLUWEEEEEEEGH....no power....close throt, open slowly, ok revs climbing, 5000rpm ...........BLUWEEEEGH....no power....feels like flooding.....ride slowly home....stop temp. 72deg C..get off, rev, freely all the way to 9000rpm.... hey???????!!!!!????? how now???? HELP!!!

only reason i ask is aprilia had issues with splitting or loose fuel pick up pipes in the tank that gave reduced fuel pressure when tank was low and the split exposed but was better with a full tank. By adding quick start you are just adding an ignition source, eg fuel

wasn't known to be an issue with the 2000 bikes but it's possible. Sounds like when you are calling for more fuel under hard load she ain't getting it. What's charging voltage like on the dash ?

You also mentioned side stand switch and neutral issues ? They are in an earth loop with the safety circuit so you might be getting an ignition cutout with vibration if there is a problem. It's certainly not good that your neutral light is on all the time.
