Front Forks 2003 RSVR Ohlins

Ive had problems with super racer type tyres in the past and when i took a long hard look at my riding i decided i wasnt riding hard enough to warm them up and thats why they were letting go

you've just hit the nail on the head imo.

I use my worn tracktyres on my road bike and they feel lethal unless warmed up. You have to build speed slowly and then get a move on to make them work. I tend to just potter on them now, its a lot less risky.

Do you think that would stand up in court though?? - no milud I refute that alleagtion that my driving was dangerous, on the contrary i was simply riding hard enough to get heat in the front tyre ..................

If it's not that you are pushing hard then i'd check the tyre pressure and the rebound and compression settings on the forks. Also would be worth the time checking on the rear shock settings. Does it let go when you bring the power on, constant throttle or throttle off?

There is a thread on here with a full write up on the various tyres from one of the magazines. As they say, all modern tyres are good, but some tyres suit some people, and some don't. It all depends on what "feel" you feel comfortable with and your riding style. Good luck with getting it set up to your liking and putting a stop to the front end letting go :thumbup

Cheers Caterpillar have tried all the usual, pressures fine, started with stock settings and have firmed up the back quite a lot using some 'fast road' settings i was advised, these have imporved feel etc for my tastes but have had 'the problem' on constant throttle and when bringing in the power (nothing viscious) so was kinda hoping someome would point out that tyres were a bad match.

Am happy to take advice that tyres are fine and that I may need to push harder to warm them up more - guess this could go either way - fingers crossed etc..

Quick one beechy. Did you have the issue with the front before you firmed the back up? Constant throttle/acceleration as you are cornering will be trying to transfer the weight to the rear of the bike as it yaws, which if the settings are firmer, may in fact be making the front extend as it is unable to compress the rear if that makes sense, which would take the weight away from the front and make it feel light and potentially skip.

Just a thought :thumbup

Rawley do you know what the std settings are for your forks? mine have been re-twidled again and I doubt they are right

Morning Gaz
spoke to Colin at 100% yesterday and he said standard could be considered as 4 lines showing with 5 or more better if you prefer quick steering , he did say its a matter of personal choice hence why there are so many options . I'm going back to 4 and putting rear shock back to standard as a starting point . I'm lucky Colin will be setting mine up at Oulton next week , will let you know where we end up . I may have to upgrade the rear spring to account for my fuller figure !!!!!!

Rawly

Gaz, 5 segments showing for track or 4 for road use, if you go with 12 for rebound and 12 for compression you will be very close assuming your oil weight and air gap is standard as well as the springs.
Set preload to give 25-30mm of static sag, should be about 8 turns from soft

cheers again folks. This bloody bike has an awful front end. I've had the forks worked on again due to blown seals so im hoping that the setting changes don't knacker it up again

just a quick update (05 rsv front forks) - everything else (suspensionwise at least) now sorted and have adjusted forks, initially to 4 lines showing (standard road) and that was soooo much of an improvement thoguht I'd try 5 lines showing today and it s a complete bloody transformation the whole bike is so much more together its like a totally different ride in fact a totally different bike with so much more confidence form the front end. will still move to pirelli's when i change tyres next but at no cost to me i'm really happy now
