sounds like the devil's been at it mate..

sorry couldnt help myself..

I feel ya pain mate! I can't gat mine started, even after buying a new battery :dunno

Workmates keep saying I should sell it but the pleasure I get from it makes up for the pain, but they don't understand that! :devious

Moggi, have you tried a new uprated starter solenoid? Also especially in cold weather batteries need to be kept on an Optimate battery conditioner

Jonty, assuming the fuel pump is whirring when you switch on the ignition, your battery / starter solenoid may also be goosed, though your dash anomoly is not the usual reset from mph to kmh when the battery is low of has failed

I've had one fitted for quite a while now. It's the Hitachi 150amp from the 04> RSVR. I tried the old 50amp to determine if it was the solenoid but still had the same problem :roll

Ok good that eliminates the starter solenoid. so assuming all other things are correct, again i would point to a low battery. Have you tried hooking the bike up to an Optimate 4 for a few days and tried starting it then? Even a new battery needs to kept on charge especially if an alarm is fitted and the bike isn't used regularly. This cold weather will also quickly deteriorate batteries

This came up some time back but do you guys turn you optimate off when you discoinnect/reconnect it.

The reason being is the optimate tests the state of the batt at turn on and after charging it it goes into a trickle mode. If don't switch them off they often won't re evaluate the batt state when reconnected.

Just a thought.

join the club mate... i think a VFR is looming closer... lol... but im trying my best before i have too sell my RSV... iv spent £400 now too try & solve it !!!! :inlove

my work mates say im stupid & should stop wasting my money... & just sell it & get the VFR... some have said i could of just bought a cheap £400 GS500 until summer... but id still end up with a RSV with the unsolved fault... even if it doesnt show in warmer weather... as its been running perfectly uptil when it started getting really really cold !! :roll

they obvisiously never fell in love with a bike like we do with the RSV !! :biggrin

I had a problem starting the millie, even tho I uprated the solenoid, battery was fine and fully charged. I had a look at the connection on the starter and it was rustier than a 25 year old mini! Ended up distmantling the starter to get the cable off, had to make a new bolt, put a new connector on, and touch wood, has been fine every since.

yep, it'll definitely be the solenoid or connectors to/from it. Had the same problem. I read on here somewhere that a R1 solenoid is cheaper and better than the (unbranded) Aprilia one. If I have any more problems with mine i will change for the R1 solenoid. Good Luck and let me know what you found.
