Flywheel trouble

Eddie,

Thats even more simple than the one I found.

Can "we" manufacture one like that quite easily ?

WTF !!

I see where ur name comes from !! :)

Unfortunately I have to do this on the cheap at the moment, but Eddies DAF wheel stud idea with some heat seems as good as any expensive solution anyway.

I am gonna try and if I feck it up then too bad. Least its giving me a fighting chance.

I will look for local truck dealer and try n give it a bash, literally, tomorrow.

Thanks for all your help and great ideas lads.

Will let you know how I get on.

Cheers, George.

lol sorry halgis only kidding mate im the same as you when it comes to repairs ,like to keep the price down as much as i can .
hope you get it sorted out mate with not to much damage . :thumbup

i have quite a few family members up in aberdeen myself must take a blast up and see them soon :biggrin

One wee question, when I have this bolt in place and have the heat on, do I give it a bit of a whack with a hammer, or just keep turning it till it frees itself ? Will the threads be ok with either of these procedures ?

G.

hammer will work fine keep hitting as you tighten the bold halgis :thumbup shock works :devious

No probs MB, I have no worries being tight, means more beer and fuel money for me !!! :)

It will either be free or £300. Least if I can do it tomorrow I can be back on the thing sooner !! :)

If it goes as well as I am hoping after all this, it will be worth it !!

G.

Ok cool, not a full force whack I presume ? The sort of pressure u would use to hammer away a 6" nail ?? or less ?

And as far as the heat is concerned, I am just looking for the centre to discolour to a bit brown ??

Yeah, will just heat the centre piece.

I presume I heat it with the wheel stud already in place ????

yep heat it up then start turning the puller /bolt and you will be fine , nothing wrong with being thrifty the Scottish part of me allways says

Eddie

Hi again,

After much buggering about and hassle I finally got hold of my bike again to try and sort this damn flywheel and sprog clutch.

We took along the DAF wheel stud which cost 3 times what I expected to pay, over £7 ! and a plumbers torch.

We cut off some of the stud to get a good spanner hold on it, then heated up the centre of the flywheel for about 7-10 mins or so till the centre changed colour a bit.

We then screwed the wheel stud into the flywheel and started turning and without much effort at all, and not a single smack with a hammer, the flywheel just dropped off !!!

All that crap for nothing.

Got the bike started quite soon after

One of the guys was holing the throttle open when bit was started, for 1st time in 4 weeks or so, and as usual the bike didnt start and complained a bit.

I put the choke off and held the throttle wide opena nd it started up no problem after just a few cranks. It would never do that before.

It sounds so much stronger even just on starting.

However, when it moving theres a huge difference too. No fuel smell any more, runs so smoothly and when in 2nd n 3rd in low revs it just picks up no problem instead of the "pinking" sound of an old diesel tractor.

I can highly recommend all the upgrades I did, its a pity I didnt get them done before the sprag clutch went.

If you havent already done so, to the brown and white connector mod, upgrade the batter leads, from KillAprilla and upgrade the solenoid.

I actually feel quite confident in the bike now, tho I will be in tears if it doesnt start tomorrow, but I dont think it will be a problem aftger start so quickly after sitting for so long !! :)

Anyway, thanks to all for the advice, especially Eddie for the DAF wheel nut trick :)

Just need to sort out the floating front discs now and the MOT, oh and the new tyres.

Then I am going to save up, for a tank of fuel.

Cheers, George.
