First RSV kneedowns today, a new chapter has begun!

Can't find any good ones... all of them barely look like I'm trying! But there was only a single guy in the group all day that I didn't overtake and he only booked into novice because inter's was full!

I think there were some corners where I was more leaned over than these photos show, but probably still several inches away from the knee touching!

Yeh man no problem at all, like I said I`m happy to help a fellow biker.

Yeh you never wanna change one.

Right then just spent the last 40mins free them all off! took WD40 a thick allen key to wiggle em round and alot of brake cleaner to get it all off again.

Good news
seems to have worked although no high speed testing yet.

Bad news
think a little overspray of wd got on the pads. This was before i remember than on the rsv the caliper bolts are allens, and before I remembered that I loaned out my allens a couple of months ago!!

They still work, just lost abit of initial bite until I can get the calipers off, and re-clean the discs and pads.

Still hopefully problem solved

cheers guys!

Body position is important, found this old one of mine from rockingham, look at the foot and backside position on the inside of the corner, turn your foot out and get the ball of your foot on the outside of the peg.

once you get some real angle of dangle you need to start lifting your knee up again:thumbup

Glad to be off help SteveR, good chance it will be that, done over 60K miles on Milles so have a bit of knowledge on them:thumbup

That is a nice shot Badger as it also shows the need to look at the exit of the corner and not at the front wheel, which takes some practice on the road as to start with we all have a tendancy to keep watching the road right in front of the tyre which in turn gives for very juddery cornering!

badger;167339 turn your foot out and get the ball of your foot on the outside of the peg. Nice pic ;) Thats a good tip too (although I actually turn mine in) either way make sure your on the ball. Been trying to find a good example pic but cant. You can see it in this vid I made in france said:

And as cowelly said looking where you WANT to go, is probably the most important part of riding faster.

Cheers again for that badger mate. Wonder what courses it? maybe never braking hard?? I did 16k on my R1 in all conditions, I`v never had that before on any bike actually.

The link picture is better to see position of the foot etc.

Looking through the corner is a must as you will only go where you look, as you say looking just in front of the wheel makes for lots of correcting of your line, you need to look ahead to be smooth and anticipate the next section of road, not the one you are already on.

Stormer, i would say you still need to enter the corner a bit faster yet to give you more lean angle, don't try and do it all in one session, build up your speed so you get a feel for what the bike will do(which is a lot more than you can throw at it).

To cap it all, better corner entry speed and work on your body position and most important off all, you must RELAX RELAX RELAX or the bike will fight against you and you will feel as if the bike is not reacting to your liking, but if you analyse this it is you tensing up and this transfers through the bike.

Did i mention RELAX RELAX RELAX

Steve, these are semi floating discs which when new you can feel them rattle when you move the disc, not as much rattle as a fully floating race disc, but still enough to feel it.

It is absolutely a must to keep the bobbins contact with the disc clean and free of crud, i use WD40 and stick a pozi3 bit in my cordless and insert it in the hole and spin it with the drill at the same time as lubing to clean it out.

Then clean thoroughly with brake cleaner to remove ALL TRACES of WD40.

Try spraying liberally into the caliper with some brake cleaner to get the WD40 of the pads till you get the chance to take the calipers off.

While you have them off check the pistons are all moving freely, if not get them working freely:thumbup

"Try spraying liberally into the caliper with some brake cleaner to get the WD40 of the pads till you get the chance to take the calipers off."

Done plenty of that ;) while spinning the wheel on the stand and dragging the brake!

I`ll keep checking them to keep em free ;)

Had the APE a couple of months and honeymoon period is over,so its about time i started to push it a bit more, went for one hell of a blast today and man you gotta hang off these like a frikin monkey, then too much traffic around me fav run so it was off home with tail between legs.

Great advice lads on this topic:thumbup which has lead me to the conclusion NOW IS THE TIME TO GET MY ARSE ON TRACK AND DO A TRACK DAY.

I did get my knee down on the pink one but i dont think it count :biggrin

Nice bike, glad we inspired you!

Nothing worse than heading out, and not achieving your goal because of traffic etc :/

I went out again yesterday and I have to say the RSV is one of the most stables bikes on the road I`v ridden. Front end is excellent!

Thanks mate.

I've just checked out Rockingham trackdays and there's a 105db limit.Do you recon a standard bike with an akropovic slip on would exceed it(these bikes r loud but not that loud or are they:dunno) or should i just try and get it checked first before booking?

Hmm I dont honestly know, not had the RSV long. Thats a good point tho, mines got twin akra full system thats standard on the Haga. Should probablu find out what mine would be.

My mate has a 749s with a termi can. I think he said his worked out 105 on the button....

If you have a DB killer worth taking though. Saying that I saw an R1 fail a noise test, they packed his can with fibre glass backing and he went back and passed.

Where theres a will there`s a way ;)

I've just down loaded the db meter app for me iPhone (so I'll give it a go tomorrow).

I got the idea from a thread on Noise testing on the trackday bit on here, I could of just read the whole thread first but life's too short.I'll save the rest of it for when the missis has east benders on or some other crap.

Lol i know what you mean. Its easier to just ask. PM badger, he may know.

on my 01R with an RSC Ti can it passed 105, but only just, it was pretty loud though.

Take a big roll of stainless wool and pack it down the exhaust before you get tested.

I have often kept the revs lower than they ask, very sneaky i know but thats the kinda fella i am:thumbup

I reckon if your cans packing is in good order there is a good chance you will get through 105 as that really is loud.

But take what you need to pack it just in case.

My Akra slip-on passed at Rockingham, they didn't even check it to be fair. I think they just have track-side alarms that go off if it's too loud though. It's definitely quieter than my Arrow shotgun exhaust though and that scraped through (the guy sucked some air through his teeth as he told me!) at Cadwell 105dB! :).

Thanks for the advice lads :thumbup

Tested it and it was doing 93db at 6500rpm 0.5 meter from the o/s

Now just gonna get my *** on track :biggrin

Have fun!

I recommend a euro trackday(s)

Great value, awesome winter weather!

Never done a track day but Went to BSB at silverstone last weekend with Oakley MCC. They let us have 2 laps for the first 200 to sign up. I think we were supposed to go round slowish but a mate on a GS came past me doing over a ton and I was having none of it. Not sure how many bikes were actually on track but it was far too many for the speeds we were doing. It was like riding round the Arc de triumph at rush hour but at 120 mph+ in places. someone clocked his R1 at 140 but he was at the front. Best moment was overtaking round Luffield with 4 bikes on the inside of me. Not quite knee down but must have been close cos it was cranked over lower than ever before.Gotta do a track day next year.

My rear tyre after riding 30 miles back to Bedford.

Wow never heard of that before, sounds like fun!
Thats some odd tire wear you got there.

" a mate on a GS came past me" yeah you cant have that. (can they do a ton! lol)
