Finally managed to get my 50p profiles tires off and in the bin, and fitted some supercorsa scrubs I had kicking around in the garage (180/55 rear)
Wow its a different bike. took awhile to get used to the steep profiles, and realising its just dropping in, not washing, But after ten mins warming up, the deed was done.
Had to change my riding style for this bike abit, for some reason I find myself puttin my elbow out with my knee which I dont usually do. Quite like it.
With the noise, height and weight, kinda feels like kneedowning a 747 lol.

Thats the handling sorted, suspensions fine as is for now, (may just take note of the settings so I know where about in the adj range I am).

Next need to sort the brakes! They`v started juddering. Its quite bad at high speed (enough to widen my eyes a couple of times) cant quite put my finger on what it might be. Doesnt feel like warped discs, but we`ll see....

i know where your coming from with adapting to these bikes, took me bloody ages! something satisfying about throwing a big un about tho. with your brakes check that you can turn the buttons that hold the disc to the carriers by hand, if there seized you can sometimes free them by wiggling the stem of a small screwdriver in them but i had to use wd40 on a few of mine, obviously clean the wd40 off thoroughly with a de greaser afterwards tho:eek: hope this helps

yeah you gotta hang off like a monkey ala elia stylee, great fun though. shes on rails when tipped in...until lI ran out of front tyre
ck

Cheers fellas!

Lewis - Yeah man its a big beast but it is really saitisfying swooping low on it and scraping stuff.
Hadnt thought of that! Nice on, I`ll check. Thing is I think they are new discs! Got the originals in (one of) the boxes of spares.
I`ll check the carriers like you say, get the fron wheel up and spin it see if I can see any warping and clean up the calipers and pads I guess. Then go from there..

CK - Yeh. Its abit all or nothing at first on these tires (got used to the flat diablos it came with), But once its over, its pretty solid. I did that. Beauty of lowsiding by going off the front tire, is your already so close to the floor, there is very little damage as no impact! bonus!, I just ran over to the bike, picked it up and carried on lol. Only lost a bar end :D Well and scuffed the belly pan, (but dont count as it was getting scuffed anyway.)

Well done! In 15 years of riding I have managed to get my knee down only three times. Unfortunately on all three occasions my legs, body arm and bike were also down shortly afterwards. You never forget that awful sound of plastic on tarmac!

LOL

God I hate that sound!

Would you like to get just the knee one day?

Not really, I am a bit too old now for that kind of thing. The 10 year promise of a track day is also probably dead but I haven't buried it yet!:biggrin

my mate did it for first time, on our last trip to france after 8years of riding, just following me through a twisty road a few times. The non stop left right left right left right etc type of riding is just great practice, for getting comfy with the bike and sorting body position. Here you rarely get even a fraction of that. He had never managed it by just circling a roundabout in england before that. since then he is a MUCH better rider, pretty fast actually!

Its never too late! want some top tips?? lol

Cheers fellas!

lol matey, when I crashed I went flying (with the bike right behind me) fekked my lid (brained meself on kerb), jacket, Wide bore Ti akra can and link, tail unit and front fairing, it was all carbon..and a month before our european motogp trip. I couldnt walk for a week due to the haematoma on my fmoral head..arg
Cost over 1k to put it right!!.
I watch my front tyre now..lol
ck

lol! fecking hell! unlucky bud! Mine just took its self off down i side road and there was a moment when I was sliding on my leg still, but with out a bike, as it decided to take the exit without lol.

At least you didnt bend anything! The guy who owned my bike grabbed the front brake in the rain and lowsided at like 20mph and manage to catch the fork tube on something. Replacement set of ohlins forks couldnt have been cheap!

Its takes awhile to trust the front again after an unexpected lowside....

know what ya mean, my forks swingarm ..and cf wheels were all unmarked, but as usual I mashed the front fairing bracket (since its made of cheese). youre right , I was a bit hesitant to knee down on mille after that ..but that was soon sorted. Im a bit more worried on the v4 so I make sure the racetechs are nice and hot first

The things we do for fun aye :p

On the juddering topic. Just spoke to the last owner, he had the juddering after the (muppets) garage fitted the new discs....
Appartently he only changed them because they told him "the front left disc as you sit on the bike was hard to turn the wheel and might have been a little bent"....
Whatever the f**k that means. Thats obviously where the problem lies anyway..

first thing to do is make sure all the disc bobbins spin freely, common problem and will give a warped disc feel, lube them and get them spinning and free of road crud, make sure all the lube is off the discs and that may well be your problem

I feel like I hang off like a loon but never got my knee down :( . Was the fastest or there abouts in Novice group at Cadwell recently though and no chicken strips on the rear!

Thanks for that Badger, I`ll go try that in a minute, would be bloody handy if that were the case!! Never heard of that issue before!

Where are you based stormer?
If your local I`m happy to help you out with it ;)

Hanging of like a loon is most likely your problem. Bringing your knee to the road never works, your more than likely twisting your body to get your knee further out, which is actually standing the bike up. lean is a by product of corner speed.

I never used to hang of enough, I once did a knee down totally central on the bike just to see if i could lol. Fool

Shame man. still PM me if you got any questions I may be able to help with. I aint Rossi, but I am totally self taught, and some of the lessons were painful!, happy to help where ever I can and throw you a few tips ;)

Badger - Just went and checked my discs. You cant tell the carrier and contact metal are supposed to be separate pieces... the whole thing feel like one piece.

Cant turn any of the bobbins on either disc....perhaps this is the problem!

I`m off to the garage to try and free them up :thumbup

Thanks, not sure what I can really ask if it's just by message! Will try dig out some photos of me at Cadwell, I didn't buy them but the previews will still be on the website.

I had the same thing with my discs, it can solve the judder but I ended up needing new discs in the end as one was actually warped (and didn't fancy just changing the one).
