hi guys just a few lines to let you know how much im enjoying my T. i went out yesterday morning in warm sunshine which is rare for the uk at the end of oct ? done 70 miles on a superb road (Ahem) track. i went 155 mph got my knee down pulled wheelies and really enjoyed myself :yes all this in comfort on an exotic italian v twin ! i think i will keep it for years i just enjoy it so much and always want to take her out for a quick spin ? i have been thinking of buying a factory as i love the carbon bits and the ohlins but love the diablo black and polished ali frame of my R . how much better is a factory ? would i notice on the road ?? please dont read this like i ride like some kind of loony as i dont (most of the time) that was one reason i got a T . with no fairing i find i do ride at a much lower speed than i used to ie under 90mph yet enjoy it more ? lovely bikes if any guests are reading this thinking of buying one do it :thumbup

Have to agree with you. My "T" is an absolute blast to just cruise around on. I can't exactly put my finger on it, but it seems to have a lot more "personality" than most of the japanese bikes I've owned over the years. Can't give you an opinion on the Factory as I've never ridden one. It does seem that the stock suspension on mine seems to be loosening up as the miles go up (Currently at 3900). I'm certain the Ohlins are superb but I ride pretty slow and only on the street.

Another satisfied customer. The T is an excellent bike, & as Biker 911 says has the personality the jap bikes don't. :thumbup
Biking is all about having fun, and that is the T to a T. :lol
Enjoy it bud

I bought my T after being lent one while my falco was being serviced ( crafty *******s ) ,I do love it but have to admit that after initial lust of flickability and outstandingly responsive performance i am sort of missing the warm cuddliness of the falco . Trouble is i can't go back 'cos i think i'd miss the sharpness ! ( Better start saving up and have both methinks ! )

Glad to hear that you picked the best Tuono (read that, same as mine). I am of the firm opinion that the the Tuono is the best weapon for those of us that appreciate real world riding. Any ******* ****** can twist their wrist and go fast. A real rider goes out and pulls wheelies, drags knee, and spends time on corner speed. Ohhhh, I think I just described the majority of people here, and Tuono riders in general! Good on ya, kneeslider, for appreciating the Tuono for what it is. One of the finest bikes for *riding*, ever made.

took me a month or so to gel with the tuono r but now love it on road and track, trouble on track is i do worry bout crashing cuz i dont want to be off the road to long waiting for spares all tho i have been buying **** loads of spare parts from ebay ! never worried about my r1 ,strange eh .oh yes new ohlins shock just delivered wiv sprint damper , just need to get forks revalved .must admit did enjoy the tuono on its first trackday(castlecombe)shame could not take baffle out of akro's cuz of noise restrictions !

Very well put Shvl.

And welcome to the Zone TIMLINCO. And NO, you will never go back. Having both in your stable is the only answer.

I had a 2005 Tuoldo for 1 year then switched to my new 09 Factory in May. The difference is huge! You have to do a fair bit of fiddling for your own weight etc as there are so many setting options on the Ohlins, but once its done the factory is a dream to ride.

I have mine setup for fast road and now also have a track setting that takes it just two click extra on the front and back. Its absolutely rock solid everywhere, where as my old Tuono was a little saggy at the back and would wallow when pouring on the power coming out of a bend. The front used to struggle under hard braking also and bottom out even with the pre-load cranked right up.

In the end it depends how you ride but if like me you like the odd track day and riding fast road then the factory is for you.

The Falco is the connoiseurs sports bike [tourer my arse, proper bike]
The Tuono is well just the connoiseurs bike :thumbup

Much as I hate to do it, I'll agree with nobbie on this one. The Tuono really is an honest riders bike. Fast as ****, reasonably reliable, and comfortable enough for us old men to ride for extended periods. It corners better than the vast majority of bikes, isn't astronomically priced, yet still oozes sexiness and exclusivity. I heart my T.

R Model verses the Factory?

I've just sold my 05 for an 09 Factory, but my wife has an 07R model.
A month or so back I was out with Windy in his (still running in) 09 Factory, riding Liz's 07R so we got to compare them back to back/

Engines are the same. (actually Liz has the 07 pre oil filter change engine which is proving more reliable than the later version)
Suspension - The Factory is better, but a few quid in the right places will sort the R model.
Carbon bits - you can get aftermarket stuff - MSS do a whole range.

Upgrades for an R model.

Rear shock. The stock Sachs unit is a real shocker. Get an Ohlins off a crahed factory (Tuono or RSV) they come up on ebay all the time. If you are worried send it off for a service before you fit it. They can be sourced new - try AF1 or there are equivalent companies you can look at.
Forks. Can be revalved with Ohlins (or equivalent) internals and are pretty much the same once done.
Wheels. The factory ones are lighter and it helps the bike on turn in etc. but I can't say it's a huge difference.

If you already have the R model, you might get better value doing the mods, keep the stock parts and flog the goodies again when you move on or trade up.

I've got the R and at the mo' am enjoying it, but reading what you say Paul, there's room for improvement. I'll keep an eye on fleabay for a rear shock.:thumbup

Grin's to light to worry about overloading the stock Sachs. Re-doing the front springs might be nice. After 40K km and an off, I have a weepy right fork seal. Might as well, hmm? I've been trolling fleaBay for bits. I can hardly wait until I've got some spare coin if and when the missus starts working again.

It's more than just overloading the Sachs unit, they are very harsh and make the back end choppy, especially over bumpy roads. Bear in mind the 07R in the household is ridden by my other half, and she's not that heavy. Liz suffers a bit of Sciatica so a supple and well damped ride is important, the £400 that it cost to replace the shock was money well spent.

I was told that the issue with the Sachs unit is that it is actually undersprung, and as a result the compression damping is over adjusted to compensate. If you reduce this (if possible on the gen 2?) then the bike wallows in corners and squats under power. The Ohlins come with a 105N spring (about 115lb/in) which works fine for my wife (who will kill me if I print her weight) and myself and I am getting on for 16st. (~215lb)

If you do replace the shock, swap the two triangular link plates as well. AF1 do a neat replacement unit costs about £40. (I did mine last night, Liz's about a year ago.)

Springs are important, I reckon they think every buggers like the Italian's or Spanish in Euro bike land. I took me Falco to a good place near us and said 'I need you to have a look at me bike mate, its ***** in and out of corners'. The ***** looked me up and down ,scratched his chin and said [in a Jaws kind of way] 'were gonna need a bigger spring' :yes

Couple of other fettles and we were sorted :thumbup It's not usually expensive to use these people and can be the difference between keeping a bike and flogging it ,as it was with me.

thanx for the replys guys :thumbup im guessing i will keep her and just upgrade through flea bay etc ive got some short brake and clutch levers coming and a 15 tooth sprocket so by the end of winter i should have a few more bits done ie ohlins shock steering damper kn filter etc factory wheels ? or do i just buy a factory ?????:crazy ... notice all the things im buying i could just transfer over. see im not stupid ! well maybe a bit :confused

Yer just a little guy, pauly. I've got my rear shock cranked to the max to try and damp my 19+st weight. Same goes for the front. I weigh a fair bit more than the "normal" rider so I can't expect "normal" shocks and springs to be able to accommodate my largesse. The way my back has been feeling the last month, supple and smooth sounds like a dream!

loose some weight then fat boy ?????????????
