OK Stuuk, just trying to help narrow down the noise.

I'm with Spoonz on the tensioner, best left to a technician/Aprilia dealer.

Hi Spoonz

Thanks for the advice

i'll wait and see what the dealer who sold me the bike has to say but if I end up doing it myself i'll pull the valve covers first, might as well check the valve clearances at the same time.

Did 200 mile run on the bike today found a couple of tuono's and their's at tick over sounded pretty much the same as mine ie quite a distinctive tapping noise at idle when hot.

Tried to annalyze exactly what im hearing, at low speed and low revs, or on the overun, it sounds a lot like something bouncing around inside the engine at 5k it becomes a whurring almost ringing type sound with a slight warble to it

It fades at around 7k due to general engine and wind noise but from 7.5k i feel a significant increase in vibration through the bars and footpegs.

To be honest my mates dont think it sounds particulary noisy but you only hear these noises properly when riding the bike.

cheers

Start wearing ear plugs, buy a quieter lid and start ringing its neck, you sound like your started to get paranoid. except these are noisier than jap 4's and get on with enjoying the experience. if the worst happens and it goes pop, a second hand engine can be bought for sensible money.:thumbup
ride it like you stole it.

hi Heroblob

I think you are probably right.

I took it to another Aprilia trained mechanic yesterday in York.
He took it for a spin and thought all the noises were normal for a mille.

He did think it was a little lumpy though and suggested I needed the TB's balancing.
He also reckoned the Wurth dry chain lube I use isn't very good as its hard to tell the chain is lubed
I guess he has a point as the chain always looks dry but the Wurth stuff got a good write up and is less messy than other lubes.

As far as the noises are concerned i guess i'll be buying some earplugs!

Stu, have you got a decent replacement exhaust can. The stock exhaust can certainly highlights all the engine noises. A decent Arrow or Akrapovic can comes highly recommended and sounds the absolute muts :thumbup

Also Wurth Motorcycle Chain Wax is an excellent alternative to the Wurth Dry Chain lube

do you seriously not ride with ear plugs. Mad. i will not ride without them, i cherrish my hearing, and you only get one set of ears. wind noise when riding is way above the danger zone for your hearing.

Well
I do not use ear plugs - I have a Schubert S1 helmet ;)

Seriously V2 is a lot noisier than I4. Used to have a Suzie SV with V2 and she was noisy as well ;)

Close up the visor and rund - this bike is at her best on winding roads.
My mate with HD was scared today when i over took him with the speed and acceleration that Rotax has ;)
