Hi, can anyone help went to start my mille it started for a few seconds and stopped i went start again and it just locked up,any clues ? it was working fine in the afternoon havent heared any noises or rattles it as 9000 miles on the clock the engine oil is clear and good, run lovely up until then, now wont turn over, havent started to look at it yet any pointers to where to start first.

Does the fuel pump prime etc as normal, any clicks from under the seat when you push the starter ?

Cheers Spoonz for replying yes i can hear the fuel pump prime and there are no clicks or any kind of noise coming from anywhere.

Ok Monkey. It deff sounds like a hydraulic block. This is where the cylinder fills up with fuel and then on the compression stroke licks up because the fuel won't compress or let the valves open. What ya gotta do is take out the spark plugs from both cylinders and then turn it over. Don't keep just trying to turn it over without doing this as you might bend the valves or worse case sinario even bend the conrods!!!!!!! The next thing is try and work out how come the fuel has leaked past the injectors and into the cylinders.
Good luck chap

cowelly thanks for the reply but tried starting sometime after still locked but as i said in the first post the engine started then stopped after a few seconds. But will take the plugs out like you suggested then try.

Got round to looking at bike today removed spark plugs and and injector body, had a good look in side and couldnt find anything wrong with valves or the cam chains, removed clutch cover no problems there, removed starter motor no problem there, removed generator cover no problems there me thinks, tried to turn over engine at generator and engine finally turned over, before i think about putting all back together as anyone locked the gearbox up, i ask because that afternoon i put the bike in gear without using the clutch and it stalled could this have caused the problem? next question is the haynes manual on this bike any good or can i download a workshop manual on this site.

got ya, sorry I didn't read 1st post properly as hydraulic lock only occurs when the bike has been left for a period. Surely if it's gear box you should still be able to start it with the clutch in or outta gear?

Hi cowelly, no change if i pulled clutch in or not mate, will put most of it back together in the morning and put the battery back on and see what happens when i turn it over without the plugs in.

Maybe it actaully just stalled rather than locked up. There may be an electrical issue as to why it died and is not turning over on the starter.

Just put all back together after checking the valve clearances luckily all within, turned over fine with the plugs out!!! will put plugs in and start it up and go from there. At a loss to think what could of caused the engine to lock,

surely it wouldnt be a hydraulic lock if it fires up then stops? check the starter motor and the rest of that starter assembly. it could be something in there jamming something from turning.

also it could be an electrical fault as mine has stopped turning over after riding it all afternoon then for no reason worked again. check the switch gear in handle bar and associated wiring connectors and just clean all the contacts up making sure there all tight. thats all i did with mine, and its fine now.

Go here to download pdf manual copies for no cash. Do be careful about application effectivity, They may not be exactly what you need.

If you have no click, the starter relay may be buggered, the sudden stoppage may not be the culprit. I would think unpleasant sounds would ensue upon starting. Do make sure the engine cut-off switch is engaged, neutral, etc.

Hi everyone, the bike is all back together and the engine runs as it should no faults shown, can only think the bike locked into gear, all i did to unsieze the engine was turn over the engine with a 14mm allen key at the crankshaft,i have yet to ride the bike so will keep everyone informed,I have to be honest and say i have owned many bikes over many years and find the mille by far the hardest bike to look after ie rear brake bleedin! batterys dont seem to last that long! digital dash going from mph to kmh!, hot crutch in the summer!.But the sound and the grunt and handling out weigh these faults, maybe not the hot crutch!!

Sorry in advance, but how do you manage to ride a bike with a crutch now that i have to see:nana:thumbup:biggrin

mate, the clocks resetting is down to low juice in batt, always use optimates.
and forget trying to get a rear brake!
The new v4 is as bad as my 02 mille was lol
cheers Ck
