ECU gremlins! AAAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHH

If it dies when the throttle is opened quickly I wonder if it is
A. not enough fuel ie the filter is blocked or the pump unable to keep up
B. Too much fuel and its getting flooded, although if it was this would it not "stink" of petrol?

Just my two pennith worth

That voltage isn't too bad but might just be worth a check of the brown connector behind the radiator expansion tank.See if it shows any signs of melting.
Have a check of the voltage as the revs get up to 4k, does the dash voltage rise up from the 13.2 -4 at idle to nearer 14

Secondly try checking the vac pipes all around the throttle body and /or running the bike with the atmos sensor unplugged (behind batt under seat) and see if it runs better.

The dash may throw an error when it's unplugged but it should still run.

Kiwi just reminded me of something. There have been fuel pump and fuel pipe issues in the tank. Is the tank low? try running with more fuel in tank. Pipes can develop pin holes and when tank is low the hole sucks in air. also open the cap and when the pump primes can you hear bubbling inside the tank.

My friend and I have just been having fun pouring small ammunts of fuel into the throttle bodies and the bike's revving lovely. When it runs out it goes back to farting about again. I'm going to take the tank off and check the fuel filter. I think it's a common problem on the fuel supply as a pose to being one blocked injector as the bike just stalls when needing more fuel. If it was just an injector I reckon it'd keep going but be rough.

Sounds like the field is narrowing.

My money is on a loose pipe from the fuel pump or a pin hole. Pump failure is not that uncommon either.

Atmospheric pressure ensor. Would you believe it has such a dramatic effect!
If I unplug it the bike's sorted and as soon as I plug it back in it's poorly again.

GT in Plymouth say it'll be a couple of weeks. Anyone know where I can get one quicker?

I'll take it for a run this evening just to check but the difference when it's unplugged is massive!

Right, took it for a spin on Tuesday night. All goooood!!! I'm very happy and utterly grateful to everyone for your superb help. What's more I know why it went wrong. When I wash the bike it sometimes gets water under the seat. I usually spray some gt85 over the electrics. I reckon it's built up in the little valley the sensor pickup fits in and contaminated the sensor. I stuck it up my nose and it smells of gt85. Beware! It's about £35 for a second hand one from ebay but I'm going to try and source a new one from a Bosch dealer. Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks again for your patience everyone. Diamonds you lot!

Excellent Maf, glad your bikes sorted.

Strange how the sensor never threw up a fault code though??

Perhaps it was enough to affect the readings but fell within engine running parameters.

Happy hunting for the new sensor.

ecu will only check for a short or missing reading. It can't tell if the reading is correct or not.

Basically if it goes duff it might tell the ecu you are at 2000ft above sea level when your not etc.
In fact itonly has a range of something like 8 mbar i believe so bit of an exageration but you get the drift.

Maf - where was this sensor? Is it the one under the airbox?

Yeah as for sensors, my speedo sensor went funny showing 125mph whist I was sitting traffic :) no fault codes displayed.
Glad you got your problem found! top site this :)

2005 aprille mille 1000cc i have the same problem..1st my battery went..i replaced battery with new..clocks resetted to 00000km..then it didnt start took it to the workshop..they replaced starter coil (clocks 0000km)..it run great for 1000km..one day it didnt want to switch on at all the digits on the clock were messed up that u couldnt read what were standing on the display..took it to the workshops it standed there for 7 months..finally they found the problem it was the immobulizer ecu..they replaced and again clocks 0000km..now the general warning light comes on with the oil light when u drive it slacks power (the oil level is right)..now u need to switch it off and on again the the warning light and oil light goes off........ Tired of struggling
