Went for a super ride out yeaterday and noticed that the motor gets more rattly when hot, does yours do this aswell or is it that im starting to notice things a bit more now Ive had the bike for 2 months? :dunno

Mine too, rattles a little when cold and purrs when warm.

However, when I was in traffic in town on Saturday I did notice that the clutch clunked a little when at lights in neutral.

Pretty much standard for a 1000cc V twin mind.

Is it loud enough to be recorded and posted on You Tube or something like that?

If your really worried about it then best to take it to your local Aprilia dealer and hand over your hard earned dosh.

Mine's got a rattle sometimes at 3000rpm-ish. I usually fix this by turning the turny thing on the right handlebar untill it's doing more than 3000rpm. :thumbup
All the RSV's I've riden (OK, that's only three) have made rattley noises at some point, I think it's a feature, not a fault. :confused

The oil is at the low level point perhaps I should top it up lol

Can I top up with synthetic although in it is Semi?

mine is about the same hot or cold but keep your oil up mate as they do use a bit:thumbup

How much would i need oilwise if its at the low point on the tube? and I read somewhere that you must only fill it up to mid way as it can push oil into the airbox?

Mines louder at start-up.....but then my eardrums are pounded to oblivion after a ride so then everthing sounds quieter :biggrin

Mine also gets quieter after a long fast run, but again accasionally it does rattle more and always has done..Covered 18k miles now so it can't be a problem

I've only had mine about 7 weeks and I'm still getting used to it as well and I'm noticing a few different things every time I go out really. Like LEGS mine's a bag of spanners when cold and after about 5 minutes it's still noisy but much smoother.

However I've noticed that when I stop in traffic or near buildings etc it sounds very rattly/noisy but rightly or wrongly I'm putting it down to the noise from the Akros and the engine resonating off the cars and buildings as it sounds fine at a standstill with nothing substantial around it.

I used to have an SV1000S which had some horrible clonking and rattling all the time but the RSV's much better when warm.

Bizzarely mine gets quieter and smoother when warm, it's noisiest on cold start up

aye, cold engines rattle.. while at small tolerance..better as they get warmer for sure..mine is as LEGS says

Aye rattly when cold as various bits have shrunk as they cool down and therefore have greater tolerances, as they warm up the tolerances become tighter and less noise is produced.
My R1 barrels would expand between .8mm-1.0mm when hot (as an example)

Aah, the famous Yam trait. My YZF 750 used to use 100ml of Oil to 100miles, but never really smoked BADLY, just a whisp. My mate's used to smell it all the time thoughm trying to keep up on their 600's :thumbup

My RSV is quite noisy too, does sound less high-pitched and worrying when warm. I just accept that twins are noist mechanically, I guess all the crap running the cams and balancer shafts add up to a lot of moving parts, not just the head cams and a crank.

Just make sure there is plenty of oil and use earplugs! My Fireblade suddenly sounded shagged the day I popped to work and forgot my earplugs! Even makes your visor mechanism sound **** without them...

Areesmill, just a note fella. You're probably aware but you need to follow the correct procedure for checking the oil level, i.e ride the bike for 20 minutes until warm, switch engine off etc.......

Use 15w50 semi synthetic such a Silkolene Comp4. It's 1/2 litre between min and max

Cool Legs

I understand it as run the bike for 20 minutes get off the bike and immediatley look at the sight tube and add if needed.

Hope this is right
