AMB67 the top man has just spent 20 minutes with me ( must admit 15 minutes of that, was me looking for an 8mm spanner thingy) but the problem it was over a poor webcam so I have taken some pics.

Its a 2000 RSV, when I locak to the left the engine reves rise, i have no play in the throttle cables before but now I have 1mm as reccomended.

The question really is my cables bolloxed or badly routed or is it that i need to readjust?

They dont go that way on a 2000 !!. they come down by the headstock and locate on a clip attached to the front tank mounting point.
They are miles out of place.

Kiwi, forgot you had a 2000 model.

Can you take some piccies so Tim can see what I mean?

AREESSMILL...............if you can't get any pics let me know and i'll take a few tomorrow at work (got the bike stashed in the Fire Station on Optimate in heated engine room!! But ssshhhhh.....don't tell any of the bosses!!)

Mine's a 2000 too........:thumbup

Have a look at this though!

There is a plastic card on the frame to protect the cables

And arent the cable adjustors spose to point downwards as the manual dictates??

yeah its the igniton barrel that squashing the cable to form an S shape between the left fork on full left lock.

I dont know its on a X plate and the documents say it was registered in August 2000. Beyond that I have no idea.
Saying that I have checked in the 2000 service manual and it shows the cables routed the way yours are so god knows what mine is in terms of year !!.

Tim, if I was you mate I'd trade it in for an '02' model.

That looks like one feck arsed cable route to me mate, if that's right the bike designer must have done that after his Friday afternoon pub lunch.

I reckon your right Alan

Ill start her up tommorow and check it may be just a case of we need to turn the adjustor again.

Ill keep posted

ps Thanks Alan for your help again................I cant wait until i rebuild the engine with you.

With the way those cables are routed and moved by the left fork it shouldn't cause the engine RPM to rise.

These cables are designed to change shape without altering the tension on the inner cable.

As long as you have that 1 - 3 mm of freeplay you'll be fine.

I reckon you'll be OK mate.

Engine rebuild, **** I'll need to book a month off work and pop over to France. LOL

Kiwi, mine is a 2000 and the cables should be routed via the locating bracket/clip on the front tank mounting exactly as yours are, so no need for you to worry squire :thumbup

Areessmill, have yours always been routed this way on your bike? :dunno

Not keen on this picture below either!!!

As spoonz has said before, as close to zero throttle play is definately the way forward. Why adjust the throttle play to cancel out a problem that looks to be caused by routing?

Thought I had an old pic laying around. If you look towards the headstock in the picture you can see the tank/airbox locating bracket with the throttle cables running underneath the locator on the left.

I'd recommend popping the tank and taking a look :thumbup

Thanks Guys

Just started the bike and after adjusting the cables it runs perfectly on left lock without revs incresing.

Perhaps its just Pre 2000.5 that have them running this way.

Ps thanks AMB67 for the help last night
