Hi guys,
I'm fresh to the Aprilia world, bought my first Mille R on Saturday........WOW what a bike. I've had a few rice grinders but nothing compares to this baby.
But it's not been without it's problems, perhaps you could shed some light.
Basically I've had to fit a new battery, because every time I started the bike it flattened the battery. I don't mean "hanging" on the button, just a couple of quick pushes. The new battery went on this morning and it started straight away, but after my ride home tonight I tried to re-start it (the fans were running) and it struggled. Is it simply that RSV's are battery killers by their "v" nature? or is there possibly something else going on?
Any ideas would be most welcome, cause I dread pressing the button only to be dissapointed again.
All the best,
mark.

Welcome fella,if you got it from a dealer, take it back & let them sort it out.Theres is a problem somewhere mate.
All the best fella.Kev:thumbup

check the battery voltage readin with ignition on mate, should read over 12, if not ya got a chargin fault i reckon, Welcome to the forum mate, friendly bunch of blokes on here....... that Bad Boys a bit of an arse tho, best to ignore him, we mainly do :lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:thumbup:thumbup

little1uk is correct. If the battery voltage reading is not over 12 volts then there is a charging problem and this is not something particular to "v's". It could be something as simple as a loose ground connection but it's best to let your local shop look it over if your not mechanically inclined. Best of luck.:thumbup

All the above sound right...but when you do get it sorted, remember to invest in a trickle charger to keep the bugger in tip top condition...I put mine on even in the summer, no starting problems ( probably shouldn't have said that the way my luck is going!!)

Look on the bright side NewBoots to do that at least you do not have to connect to PayPal:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

Welcome mate :thumbup

Some bike alarms are renowned for sucking the life out of batteries. Just a thought.

DC:biggrin

aahh man, I would love to avoid using Payeveryoneintheworld ever again but that's impossible in the digital age!!

has any one seen my fleece it seems to be lost in the paypal in the sky....

aye, aye, someone's back on t'internet...welcome back to the land of the living....we'll talk about the fleece at the weekend!!!:devious

Definitely buy an optimate to keep the battery in good condition. They are about thirty quid but you will get treble the life out of your battery and always have the confidence that the big old bugger will fire up. :biggrin

Never had an optiamte but there again for a 06 plate that has done nearly 18,000 miles i don't think it has had time to cool down never mind drain the battery............
:lol

Welcome fella...

As peeps have already said - an optimate is always a good investment - just plug it in and walk away... Always nice to know it'll work and be in tip-top condition when needed...

I got my Optimate online and its one of the best 35 pounds i have spent... Seconded only by the very reasonable £26 that was paid for a looooovely fleece!!!

Welcome again fella & good luck!!

Optimate recovers and conditions your battery m8, i had nothing but trouble on my zx12 running flat if it was left for more than a week without riding it and since being put on the optimate its never failed to start:thumbup

Ok Guys,
Thanks for all the inputs and the welcomes.
I did take it back to the dealer, he checked it over and it's charging ok.
It now has a new battery and seems to be fine.
I ride it to work everyday so it doesn't get much of a chance to drain.
The alarm is a Datatool veto evo and I'm aware of the current drain issues.
Anyways a cracking website chaps, lots of nice machines and now I have one that works I see why you love them so much.
All the best
Mark.
