having read another thread on Disc Bobbins.........Should I be able to turn them?

If so easily or with force?

:dunno

You should be able to turn them by gripping them with your finger and thumb :thumbup I had to free mine off with a squirt of WD40 then cleaned the discs with white spirit.

They should spin with a flat blade screwdriver the right size inserted in the bobbin hole, if not get your cordless drill and a bit that fits snugly in the bobbin hole, dribble a bit of WD40 on the edges of the bobbin on either side and rotate at high speed with the cordless drill bit till they spin readily, wash off the gunge and wd40, they do need regular looking at if used in winter conditions:thumbup

I agree with all the above but just be sure that what ever you use to free those bad buggers up must be completely removed from the friction face of your disc / pad:thumbup

MMMmmmm......since i got my Galfers back from ABE after replacing the bobbins they are solid???? Haven't been out on the bike yet so unsure if that'll free them up???? Is it a problem if they are fixed solid???

Yeah SuperT some are loose some are stuck but ive started to free them off.

I suppose they are sposed to be floating so they so should spin.

I think they need to be free as the discs are "floating" and you may get some front brake judder, and feels like warped discs as they need to float around to self align themselves :dunno

Thats my take on it anyway, it may not be correct, but i'm sure someone will be along to give you the proper answer :biggrin

Kinda thought that, but as the ABE (All Bike Engineering) sorted them they may be ok?? Little puzzled now!!

they deffo should all be free to turn old pal. When you spin the wheel or push the bike around you should hear them chattering.:thumbup

They should be free ,just put a bit of rag over a large flat blade screwdriver and use a little gt85/wd40 and keep turning and the grit and **** will come out.then clean the braking surface and away you go.

Cheers Black sab and Ian.....but shouldn't ABE have left them free???

did mine today all locked solid . got em all moving now but i cant see em chattering when the bike is moved as they aint that loose .

not got my wheels back on yet so will see ,i have rolled my wheel on the carpet in lounge (understanding misus lol ) and the disks dont make any noise at all . should i be aiming to get them looser ? i can just move them with thumb and finger at the moment.my bike is 05 rsvr with radial brakes..

what about putting some castrol chain wax on the bobbins ??

I wouldn't recommend it, it'll catch all the dust and **** in the air and make them even more resistant to turning.

If you have one of them pound shops near you, they sometimes have cans of brake cleaner for, guess what, YEP, A QUID.

Just mind getting it near your paintwork as it can destroy paint in seconds.

Mine were solid, so did the wd40 thing, but stuck a 10mm bolts in the ****in hole and did a elongated circular motion so you could see all the **** come running out, then just cleaned them up with brake cleaner, and there 1000% better now.

good luck

i think i might have this problem too, wen i touch the brake lever with light pressure, i can feel pulsing.. when i increase to braking pressure, they are fine.
does this sound like a likely symptom of having stiff bobbins?
