Decisions On A Purchase

If you ride em like I do, they don't last long at all. My friend can't even ride his right now because the front suspension is gone. He just got the bike at the beginning of last summer. To each there own, but I'm stating the truth. Most people that start out riding usually improve there skills as the more wheel time you get.

Maybe it's because we have more roads/space in the U.S. The U.K. isn't even close to the size of 1 of our average sized states.

Its the states folks, this will we down to the size of the rider !!
 
His suspension may well be gone. They have long boring straight roads so they have to wheelie to entertain themselves. Usually the headstock is the first thing to go.

Hey guys, I'm just stating the facts. No flat straight rd's around me. I live in Oregon. 1/2 hour of mega twisties to get to the pacific ocean.

I'm not trying to stir up a debate, or turning this thread into something it's not. I'm simply saying they wore out quickly(even for a very light individual).
 
Ohlins is only going to be better if its set up for your specific needs. And they need servicing much more regularly to keep it that way. My mate has an rsvr factory and its Ohlins forks needed work after 3k from new. He is as hard a rider as me, same-ish weight, and obviously we use the same roads yet my tuonoR is still great handling.

All that carbon, oz wheels and kudos would swing it for me tho.

Well I can say many of our roads here in the US are rubbish. I've driven over gravel roads that are smoother than some of the paved roads around these parts. Trucks weighing 180,000lbs+ tend to beat up pavement pretty bad.

As for wear, I can't say. I have 2 SV650's that see severe duty and are still in great shape. But use and abuse do occur, as well as lemons. Jay's buddy may have gotten some bad stock.

I've got 4 Aprilias, and love them all. 2 of which being factory models. Unfortunately my Tuono is not. It was my first Aprilia purchased, but I learned from my mistakes quickly.

I picked up the Factory model Friday. The seller made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I'm very pleased with it all. Now I just need to move my Mustang and wait for some clearer weather. Anyone want a 1970 Mach 1?

He might be Slomo, its hard tae wreck a bike in 3000 miles unless you mx it. I wheelie and stoppie mine and it seems tae be holding up well

Been there and done that, your right there. (I have friends who live in Klamath CA)
 
I have a standard Tuono, but on some roads it does bounce around a bit.
I have never tested a factory. I dont personally know anyone who has one.
To decide if an up-grade would be worth it, a direct comparison on the same road would be needed.
But, a well set up stock bike does for most people who dont do track days.

Up-grading bits & pieces is always a good reason to :-

get to know your bike
maintain it better & spot issues that would normally be missed
get you out the house
creates a chrimbo pressy list
keep you out of the pub
gives you something to discuss on this forum.
 
However, on a mair serious note. I think it might be that after a few k on the bike, one becomes used to it, and forgets that first feeling of a new, good handling bike. When in fact it's still a cracking bike, but the "rush" has worn off. I used to get this with guitars. I'd play a Gibson and think "yeh this is the mutts nuts" only to have it a year and find that I have not managed to be transformed into the next Jimmy Page.

If you can afford it then go for the factory ,if not then the "R" will be just as good .
The Ohlins suspension on the factory IS a better option and the carbon bits look nice (both dear to replace after a fall) but Mr. Aprilia hasn`t spent ???$£ etc testing all options just to sell c***bikes.
I know you will be happy with either and you can set the suspension on the "R" as well as on the factory.
None are rubbish.
