Decisions On A Purchase

I'm planning on buying a Tuono in the coming weeks and have viewed several options, and have narrowed it down to two.

There's a 2008 Factory with just a bit over 3000 miles on the clock for sale locally by a very smart sounding owner, as in the type of person you wish you could buy a used vehicle from.

The second option is one of the 08 or 09 non-Factory Tuonos on Ebay that are brand new.

Prices are about the same when all is said and done. So if given the choice, what would you do? Top of the line with some well cared for use, or a step down for a brand new model?

The factory has much better suspension, which I'm led to believe makes a big difference. I've only got the R model but am happy enough with it. Its probably more capable than me, but I love it, the motor is peach, and it handles well enough for me. Hard choice really mate

Got to agree, I have a 2007 R and love it. I am much quicker through my local twisty bits on this than I was on my zx10.
If money is no object then I would go for the factory, but the R will do everything you want and more.

Welcome to Tuonozone :thumbup

for me?

I'd go for the new one with a warranty

I'm nowhere near enough to push the stock suspension beyond it's comfort zone

whoomah, hello i got my 08 factory up for sale, 5700 miles tax, mot, carefull lady owner, pm if your interested:thumbup

Evlin- I appreciate the offer, but I live in the US. Shipping would be a tad spendy!

That's not even a question. Factory all the way. You'll regret it later on if you go w/ just the R. I guess that depends on how you ride really. I've spent years slowly modifying my 06' Tuono trying to get it up to factory specs. It's not cheap!! You can't forget about the wheels on a factory. Non factory Tuono has cast wheels. Factory comes stock w/ forged aluminum wheels. Just that difference alone makes it a no brainer in my book. The stabilizer on the R version is worthless, and the shocks suck. You cannot deny ohlins for suspension. 3k miles is nothing. Just do your homework on the history of that specific bike. Maybe have it checked out by the best Ape mechanic you can find, and they are not easy to find.

I'm with jay dub FACTORY all the way.....i speak as someone that bought a standard model then realised i really wanted all the goodies.....the wheels and ohlins make a Huge difference to how the bike handles

If it was me and I had enough dough or a brand newie then thats what I'd be going for. I think there is something to be said for being the only ever fella to have turned a wheel on the bike. I've got an 04 standard Tuono and it handles great !

The Factoooooooory would have to be a good 1K cheaper for me to want it over the new bike.

Just my 2p worth.

Enjoy your purchase bud. Either will make you happy I'm sure. Twin for the win !!!

3000 miles and the guys run it in for you and got the painful bit out of the way. Buy a brand new one and your gonna loose a big chunk of its value the first time you sit on it and ride down the road. Factory one will be more desirable and easier to sell!

Thats my 2 cents anyway. I've recently brought a 2003 model with 7500 miles on it. The bike handles like a dream, cruises very nicely and goes like stink whenever you ask it to! :)

Assuming you like the extra goodies that come on the factory model and you'd prefer to be able to sell it for a good sum when the time come, get the factory! :)

Buy the factory, and sell me all the factory goodies for $3k. Wheels, full suspension(including stabilizer), and all the carbon. It'll bring your overall cost of the bike down by a third. In trade I'll send you all of my standard equipment for replacements so you have an operable bike for free. The lower carbon fairing alone on the factory is worth well over $600. To me it's a no brainer which bike you should get.

As stated before, the resale value of a factory is far superior to a plain jane Tuono. You can have a fast motor, but w/out the suspension there is no hope for control at high speeds.

cant beat that new bike smell. Does the factory have any aftermarket goodies ie cans? what colour are they?

Grin mate I'm with you on this one. I was out with a group today which encluded a well riden CBR 600rr and I was keep up nae problem. The factory would be nice even my Tuoldo handles well enough

Thats bollocks mate. The Factory will handle better, but no hope, really dude, come on.

If you ride em like I do, they don't last long at all. My friend can't even ride his right now because the front suspension is gone. He just got the bike at the beginning of last summer. To each there own, but I'm stating the truth. Most people that start out riding usually improve there skills as the more wheel time you get.

Maybe it's because we have more roads/space in the U.S. The U.K. isn't even close to the size of 1 of our average sized states.

Now I know you are talking out of your hoop. Suspension gone in a year??
And what the hell has the size of the states got to do with it.
You are on drugs dude.

Jay min, how bad are your roads if the forks are gubbed awready. Up here in sunny jockland we have things called bends have yous got them over there
