:dunno hey fuse what if I have a chip.would make any defferance if any to cut the wire ?:thumbup

mate cut the wire, all milles 98 -03 are the same
no worries!

Well not completely

36mm valve models
RSV 1999 Eprom Sport 854 The very first RSV's eprom.
Only derestricted map. Trimpots are working

RSV 2000 Eprom A63 Modified Sport854, added restricted map, de-restricted
map a little leaner, trim pots de-activated

38mm valve models
RSV 01-03 Eprom RP58 Twin map, trimpots working.
The de-restricted map have the highest ignition advance used standard by
aprilia on these bikes.

The most tuning eproms have the same map on different addresses so when you cut the wire the ecu is looking at a differend adress just to find the same maps.

In general you can cut the wire, you feel the difference immediately when you have a de-restricted map.

So the biggest treat for the early models a RP58.
Set you back around 25 Euro's
Works fine on open front & end with wire cut.

If you want better fuelling and scharper trotlle responce I have a Custom made one for 50 Euro's

Just my 2 cents :eatcorn

The later models have a completely different motomanagment with embedded software and secondary maps are only to be activated with special equipment.

04 onwards model need to have the ecu switched on to engine version 2 by using the axone unit and the throttle bodies balanced correctly afterwards.

if you want the fuelling correct buy a power commander rather than a chip thats been made for this type of engine , as every engine has its own
" personality" A custom map will tweek the fuelling spot on for that exact engine rather than guess work ( probably a little harsh but....)

each engine is different its been used differently treated diff in the past , not a big fan myself!

strange i though all the stock chips had the trim pots functional , it was just the moddified chips that stopped them working.....!

hope this helps?

:thumbup thanks griff.I just cut the ecu wire on the 02 and it seems to have worked just fine. I have the arrow chip and it seems it gave me alittle more top speed and some mid good times.thanks again for the help. all the best donnie :biggrin

if at all possible you should now balance the throttle bodies and retrim the C/o s to smooth out the fuelling at low speed and give you back some of the control at low speed , makes the bike run luuurvly!

catchya!

According to the manual the trim pots were active on 98 bikes but were disabled on 99/2000 and re activated on 2001 on oem chips.

I know Sabre's stock chip and my 2000 rsv had deactivated trimmers if that sheds any light on it.

I also have an email from Aprilia stating that 2003 bikes have the same map in both locations on the stock chip and not to cut the wire as it's not needed. Not that it will hurt just you get the same map.

On my 2003 model there is an Co drop of more than 1% when I cut the wire.
I have a Hermann Co tester and tried several eproms, actually I tried more than a dozen to find out that there are a lot of RP58 eproms sold as Tuned ones.
I have all the Original ones that are fitted in our Rotax engine and some realy adjusted ones.
Since I have some decent software, a programmer and a dyno nearby,
I have been pushing the envelope of what is possible to gain from ignition and fuelling.
Often they make a bike run rich just for sound regulation.
I could send you a RP58 for test puposes only on you're 2000 model :dowhat

I have the 2003 "US" Edwards version with 57mm TB's and Akrapovic Exhaust.. I installed the chip labeled "57mm" from Aprilia, Do you have any experience with this chip and how it performs? I also have the Akrapovic chip and the stock chip that came with the bike..
thanks

The 2003 model Rossi has always been a point of contention ecu wire wise.

Most of the 2003 bikes i have seen had not had the wire cut by the dealer hence why i asked the question of Aprilia when we were doing some work with a mates 2003 bike.

On his bike the tuner we were using for the dyno etc could not detect a difference between wire cut/wire not cut or at least not a discernable difference.

The dealer who liased with Aprilia for us also confirmed they hadn't cut any wires on the 2003 bikes they had sold.
I have to say the jury is still out, I have seen Aprilia racing eeproms with disabled trimmers dispite Aprilia saying they are always active so even they don't seem 100% aware of what is going in the bike at any 1 time.

Sold my 2000 bike long time ago but thanks for the chip offer.

At the end of the day if you cut the wire you win both ways. If it has a second map you get a gain but if it doesn't you get the same so you can't lose.

Sorry I haven't had a change to look at that one.
But I think the edwards TB and the chip are developed for eachother so I would stick with that.
I suppose more air needs more fuell :thumbup

:eatcorn Hello griff, spoonz and Dr rossi .with my ecu wire cut on my 02 it is running very luvvvly with no needed tweeks on tbs or anything at all .I do feel a little more umph in her .not a whole lot. but so I geussed it helped out. but I find it odd because i have the arrow chip in it and did it go to map two .it must of because i feel abit of a defferance in it. time to get it dynoed.with it cut and not cut and that will tell if it is really working or not.dam that is a long rambal on. sorry.. donnie
