Could I handle a Tuono

Hi All,

I'm currently riding a 650cc Kawasaki Versys. I've never ridden anything smaller than 600cc. I've got about a years riding under my belt. I've never spent any time on the track. The Versys has no chicken strips left, but I haven't ground the hero pegs yet. I've never dropped or stacked a bike.

I'm trying to work out if I could sensibly handle a Tuono. Obviously I know I'll need to not be ham-fisted. I could only find forum topics covering absolute beginners or riders coming from little 250cc bikes.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Mucker it's all down to yer right hand.

Aye and just the middle finger for the front brake. :yes

Welcome btw.

Seriously? Just the middle finger for the front brake? Are they that strong?

I was on a training course recently and the guy had me change from two finger braking to four fingers (guess I always used two fingers from mountain biking). I thought that was a bit excessive, but my stopping distance was bought down to 25% of what it was and the back wheel got air. Trying to compare Kawasaki Versys brakes to the Tuono might be a futile affair though...

greetings and salutations Zod
you will be fine on the T mucker just treat it with the respect it deserves

Honestly I think you will be fine - i came from ten years worth of ownership of some fairly low powered ducatis - 600 monster, 750 and 900 supersport and finally a 749. I think the T is more of a pussycat than we like to let on, having a bit of respect for the throttle comes with the territory when you ride twins !

The only bike i would change mine for will/would be the V4 tuono.

Lovely. I figured she should be fine with a bit of respect. All going well, I'll be picking one up this Friday :)

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Feedback anytime, enjoy the funand welcome. I came from a BUSA to this and love it. Note the short wheeel base and lift that front boy!!!!!!!!

After not riding for almost 30 years, I bought a 2007 Tuono and really enjoy riding it. It took a little while to get used to the abrupt power of the v-twin, but I really, really (really) like it. The upright riding position make it easy to handle at lower speeds and in traffic. Also dropping the counter sprocket 1 tooth helped. I use 1 finger to slow (my antilock braking device) and 2 fingers to stop. I don't think you'll have any problems, just ride within you ability. A warning though, once you have ridden one, there is probably no going back. The performance is addictive.

Its all been said & above comment is spot on. The power delivery is more in your face, but you get used to it quickly.
Unless you're a total cock you'll be fine & love the low down grunt.
Enjoy.

Not a problem at all zod90. I'm a beginner too and my previous bike was Aprilia Sportcity scooter 200 cc. Never rode bike with clutch for 15 years. Just respect the bike and set all the electronics to max settings first. Tame her slowly and you will know how wild she is. Be safe :)

Mine has anti-wheely.

When the front wheel starts to block out the horizon - a signal from my arse closes the throttle.

True,...but as the revs rise,it gets its claws out.

This is exactly what my ducati panigale 1198 s owning friend said when we swapped over a few weeks ago

Actually this is the best bit of advice. These bikes have awesome torque. Treat it with respect and you'll be fine

Ive never ridden a bike before this spring, put about 2000 miles on a 1200 sportster before spending 4 days riding a 2008 T , took to it without any problems, and yes only the middle finger on the front brake!! Youll be fine

just get one thay are the best bikes out there by miles and not as mad as ppl make out
well not after a zx10 any way

I'd love mine to be much quicker to be honest!

I do know what you mean Ric - i did test drive a bmw1000r a few weeks back (didnt mention it as I did not feel like getting lynched at the time!) and it made my old t feel like it was powered by coal!

I'm a fat boy, so mine feels like a donkey without the carrot dangling in front of its nose lol.

It's not that bad but I bet the RSV 4 one is so much quicker....defo gonna have a try on one of those one day.....and the BMW too :)
