I am curious how many would be interested in a revised piston for the clutch slave cylinder...
It would maintain the same clutch feel as the original, but would incorporate a double seal design that is far less prone to failure.

This would be ideal for those who like the feel of the original clutch or do not want to spend too much money.
The goal is to have a price around $35 USD (~ £22, ~ €24), which is just a little more than a new seal costs over here.

I will be making one for myself, since my seal is going... While I am at it I could make a batch for those who are interested.
I will put the first one together hopefully tomorrow, and do some testing and make any changes for the "production" run if it comes to that.

Yes :thumbup, however I would be interested to see how it works once tested, I would be a little more cautious if it was for a brake seal :jack but for a clutch it has to be worth a try. In principle it sounds good.

Phill,
Would you be interested in doing some testing?
I can make two and send you one...
Testing would involve installing it and keeping an eye on it.
If there no initial problems arise
perhaps taking it out after a 1000 or so miles
and inspecting it.

Yea, that sounds like a good idea. I am in the same position as you with my existing seal now leaking so I would be up to testing and checking it. Out of interest - do you have machining equipment at home or is it something you can do at work? I used to be in the motor trade and have built and raced F2 sidecars - 600 engines - so this sort of assessment is just up my street :thumbup

If you could make the OEM unit less tiring on the pull for the same price then you would be onto a winner as most people just change to EVO or MPL to have the best of both worlds.

yep very interested!! was considering a new slave cylinder but really want to keep my bike as original as possible (apart from can of course!). let me know if you need another test bike :thumbup 2000 mille R, av. about 750 miles per month since having it...

Im also in, already have a mpl slave, but well, have another option cant hurt.

And it will be track tested :D

Would certainly buy one if it made the clutch action lighter- if not the case I'll be hunting down an MPL

Unfortunately changing the piston alone will not alter the feel.
In the past I had never considered reduction in clutch effort a good thing,
I will keep this in mind.
Perhaps there is room to bore out the current cylinder, but even with a 1mm increase in radius it will only yield ~12% reduction in effort.
Perhaps a replacement slave cylinder assembly will be the next project...
I will keep you guys posted.

I will also let you guys know if I need more test subjects, perhaps for the first production batch.

Phill,
Sounds perfect! I will let you know when the first ones are good to go.
I have a Unimat 3 lathe and Proxxon mill at the residence... A bit small for doing production runs. The production pieces will be machined on a CNC lathe.

Indeed I am interested, however, the testing is impossible due weather... Looks like it takes 5 to 6 months before proper riding is possible up here.

Wish I was working at my old workplace, I always used to make stuff on my cnc's there. New place every second and every bit of material is logged so you cant do homers :jack I'd be making tonnes of stuff if I could get away with it!

If its any consolation 5-6 months should be more then enough time to get all the bugs worked out and have the finals ones ready to go.

I wish I had personal access to CNC equipment, although if that was the case I may never leave the shop.

Should have the Aluminum rod today...
Now I just need to come to an agreement with the gasket suppliers.

I was able to finish one of the pistons today!
Should be able to do one more tomorrow (or so I hope).
Need to get the seal supplier business taken care of.

Looking good - nice photography as well!
Why can't they be made like that in the first place? - silly me - too much money in spare parts
I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go :biggrin

Thank you
The production pieces should be even better, hoping to have those hard anodized.

No one seems to have the required x-rings...
The search will continue tomorrow!
Worst case scenario, may have to settle for o-rings for the time being.

Mpl slave sorted the bleeding issue? Made clutch handle action easier?
Can you point me in the directon where you bought it? Thanks.

at that price you'll be onto a winner bud, providing testing goes well!
shame i bit the bullet and bought an mpl 2 months ago. good luck.

Oh goodness, they are multiplying...

One supplier finally came through, sample seals should be here in about a week or two.

Seals are on their way...
Testing should begin soon, also I will put together a sample instruction procedure.
Stay tuned.
