Clutch Problems - Help? pls

Hi all
Read all the posts with real interest as im having clutch drag problems too. Mine is a pig to change down the gearbox even on the move and forget about neutral if the engine is running. Ive stripped and cleaned the slave and spent lots of hours bleeding all the air out. Were can i order the 0.4 jet from (up north), do ya think changing this will help, what engine oil do ya recommend. Any more advice would be appreciated.
cheers

I reckon i have cracked your problem.

Your discrepancy in the old and new stack height has bugged me as a likely candidate for your problem. It just too great for wear or a minor plate revamp to explain.
I spent a while scrutinising the parts and service manuals between years and made a discovery. The mention by your dealer of the SP being different plate wise clinched it

I'm pretty sure you have been supplied the wrong steel plates. The friction plates go right through from 98 -08 now on an updated part number but the steels are still different for the 98 -2000 rsv and the Sp.

I reckon you got sent a clutch pack with later steels which is why the stack height has jumped. I think the supplier avoided them as they were listed for the SP and he assumed they would not fit but they are exactly what you want. The steels you should have are part number 8106633. If you have an invoice you can verify the part number.

A scout back through older manuals reveals the wear limit for your correct clutch pack even with updated friction plates is 44.9 which would put a semi worn clutch in the 45's which is your old stack height.
With the later steels the wear limit is 46.3 which is closer to you current stack height and too high based on the new found info
Sorry should have spotted this earlier but the most recent manual gives the higher stack height and doesn't mention the Sp version etc being different and it's only when you read the small print which says refer to section 5.1.4 of manual such and such for different versions that you find the difference.

hope this helps.

Also shows your old plates were well within spec and probably just glazed.
