Need to tighten the chain up but before I butcher owt is there a locking pin or summat, all my previous bikes had a split pin through a castle nut but cant see anything like it on my spindle nut, surely it cant just be a case of undoing the nut!

yep, just undo nut, its got a sort o self lockin style. Re tighten tae 120N/mm (assumin ye got a torque wrench) if no got then jist rump it up fine and tight!

I heard yer jist keep tightening it until yer fart, sounds aboot right.

That made me laugh aldo. Tighten it till u fart. Best no ask the wife to tighten it for me. She'd fart as she bent down

I'm gonna go and check all my bolts now, might have to get my torque sphincter recalibrated, i just fart for my own amusement so my nuts, bolts, bits and bobs might all be loose!

Yer'll manage that no probs, jist pull the trigger. :eek:ops

Thats a belter Aldo, pissed me self lauging, but thinking back to when I changed me chain, ur right !!!!!!

That was good. Takes a lot for me to chuckle but that did it alright. Twice :thumbup

no , I think thats 80Nm/sqft ... thats for ducatis .. ours has to burst a vein in the forehead....

I think most Dukes are 180nm's.
Thats a 3ft breaker bar,....tighten untill it starts bending!

Aye Aldos right, 25mm play at mid point. Should be somethin oan yer swing arm showin this.

Mind and check in 3 different positions tho as maist chains, once used, will hae a tight spot.

Yeah, there should be a sticker on the rear hugger. If its like mine,...its probably come unstuck and blown off,...just like that poxy rubber strip on the side panel infill.

How much chain slack should there be guys? Cheers :)

I try to get someone similar weight to sit on and take up any slack. NOT to tight ,works ok.

TBH I think I have tensiond it only once since I got it (18 months) and that was when new rubber went on.

Plenty of oil on it always .

Measuring beats draggin somebody in off the street for 10 mins.

As Aldo said 25mm of play at the mid point on the bottom run of the chain and check in multiple positions.

Also when you go to tighten the spindle nut sit a 3/8 ratchet extension bar on top of the bottom chain run and turn the back wheel until it gets trapped between the chain and sprocket (don't force the wheel just push it until you feel resistance) then holding the wheel there tighten the nut, this pulls the back wheel forward and makes sure the spindle blocks are hard up against the adjuster bolts.

RICO I find with anything bike related the tight spot seems to be the wife. You ate right about the 3 positions though her purse, bag and bank account.

Cheers for the slack needed in the drive chain, guys. Hmm my sticker says tyre pressures in bars...thats all tho'. :S
