Hi all,

First ride of the season, or so I thought. Been on stands since November, oil changed and battery connected to maximiser. All new trick bits fitted, I'm well up for a ride.

So backs it out of the garage, starts it. No problem. Let it run for 5 mins then turns off, goes inside to put gear on.
(Setting the scene).

All kitted up back out side, turn key, clocks light up, needles swing. Push button, clocks die and nothing. Won't turn over. Battery?. If it is, what's is recommend ?

Even connected up to jump leads, click, click, click. Won't start.

Any ideas, cos at that point I totally lost it. Pushed it back inside, pulled out my 26 year old Honda, turned the key and away. Still well P****d off.
Thanks in advance.

Shot in the dark- starter solenoid/switch? Might be something to check if there is no turnover.

I know this'll sound daft but check that the kill button isn't on, if it's off give it a spray of wd40.

As with earlier replies,...check the starter solenoid is working,...and then check the battery.
Use a volt meter and check the voltage with ign off,...ign on,...and then when you press the starter.
You need about 12.7 dcv to start the bike. Its not a failsafe test, but it should give you an idea if the battery is good,...or not.

Ok done all that. Fitted a battery I know is good

Amds 0025 came up on the display. No idea what that means. Then the clocks light up as normal. Press button. click, click, click from somewhere in seat unit. No start.

With kill switch in nothing at all as you'd expect.

Stumped and p****d off again.

Do you mean ampt 0025?
That is the code for a broken connection between the clocks and the ecu.Check the multipin connector behind the clocks.Follow the wiring loom to the ecu.Check for any chafing/bare wiring.

Sorry yes that's the code. But then it goes off and the clocks are normal.

Push the starter. Clicking notice and nothing else.

Keith. I know the battery is good also. What I can't work out is why it started and ran ok. I turn it off go inside and it then won't restart.

With the clicking noise it certainly sounds like a problem I had with my starter realy, bike would prime, wouldn't start, clicking noise from under the seat, putting a spanner across the relay (don't shock yourself) got the bike awake, I bashed the relay on the deck a bit, then all was good (replaced it later). If you have already checked then sorry to repeat myself- just the clicking sounded familiar..

No. I've not tried that. I'll have to get the manual out to see which box is rthe started rely.

On Gen2 bikes the ecu controls everything. You must have a loose/corroded connection somewhere. There was a guy on here with a similar problem,...turned out the wiring loom was chafing under the tank.

As for removing the solenoid and bashing it on the floor,.....:no

Aha, so that is a solenoid after all ;) Am learning tonnes today. Giving it a knock reportedly can un-seize them- worked on mine anyway- keeping it for a spare for now. And sorry, didn't know it was a gen 2. Will keep schtum from now on.

I've read the thread. If it's chaffed wiring. I'm stunned, not had the tank or any bits off. I'm not good on wiring. I'm going to look over it tomorrow. The starter solenoid is clicking like mad, but it doesn't turn over.

Why would it start up and then 10 minutes later do feck all. Not moved or disturbed anything?

Yeah, on my prehistoric desktop, webcam is crap. When researching the problem before I saw it called many things, starter relay, starter switch, starter solenoid, tip over switch is new... Manual calls it start relay I believe. Does the job a solenoid used to do I think. Sorry, off topic.
