Its time to say goodbye to the 06 Rsv1000R.

Three years of fantastic riding when she is running okay. We have had our problems, electrical stator, rectifier, clutch slave, rear brake, crack Ohlins fork base due to idiots over tightening the clamp bolts in the past. But when she was running, she was great.

This last few months has been a decision of do I get the RSV4 which was my dream bike at the time, but from reading forums, this has its problems! Then it was the KTM RC8R. I have settled for my other fantasy bike, an MV Brutale 800. I should get her next week once prepared. New race exhaust on order.

The thing is tiny and will now suit me for comfort being a more upright position.

I swapped my 05 RSVR for an mV F4 1000 early this year. It is far from certain that the MV will stay and another RSVR will probably be the replacment of choice! Don't expect the MV to be any less needy!

I've had a lot of bikes, currently race an FZR400 with some success and have a 2010 fireblade track bike, but Aprilia seem to make bikes that simply handle better.

The F4 is a fairly old concept and hopefully the newer triples are better but basic things are wrong with it, like cam chain tensioners, the water pump and radiators aren't up to the job and the fueling is bloody lethal as standard and the rear wheel bearings fall apart wrecking the hub resulting in a £500+ bill and a risk of hospitalisation; but probably no bigger risk to life and limb than the RSVR suspension linkages!

The thing with the MV though is that it looks so good! You will find some useful info on MVagusta.net

On the bright side RSVRs are brilliant value for money so part ex-ing back shouldn't leave you badly out of pocket:happy
 
Ski so, I have just bought an 04, I used to ride a 52 plate Millie for 5 years, sold that a few years ago and now come back to Aprilia.
I've had the 04 just over a week. In that time I've replaced the stator, burnt out on one phase, wouldn't charge on low revs, changed the rectifier as a matter of course. While I was in there I changed the sprag bearing as the spring was a little slack.

I've had to get recovered twice, first time when I found the stator wasn't charging and the other night as the speedo wires had melted together by the exhaust under the swing arm.

If you go for a later one I would check these before handing over cash, quick multi test on the battery and a nose around, hope this helps.

What was the price of the stator and rectifier upgrade? The bike im looking to buy is in england, im in northern Ireland. Courier was picking it up so I wont get a chance to look at it. This post is putting me off buying it
 
Around £350, stator, rectifier, gasket, sprag bearing and long oil filter. You will also need oil and green loctite.

Test the stator first, I only had 10amps on 2 of the yellow wires & 1 amp on the other. It was enough to keep the battery charged while riding but as soon as you sat in traffic it just drained
 
I went on her today. Absolutely fantastic. Its only 125 hp but a triple and 165kg. Its insane in sports mode. It pulls like a train in 6th gear even at 30 mph. Clog it down a couple of gears, rip the throttle open and the front lifts and shakes its bars. A steering damper is needed I think.

Seen these today in mcn. Looks great and 881mm seat height it isnt for the vertically challenged
