Breather pipe

Hows the bike running now Simmo. Is it still feeling a bit lumpy and snatchy at low revs. Like Gilo said above he's ridden mine and mines pretty silky smoothe for a twin. Got on his though and was surprised how snatchy it was below about 3k. Accelerated fast enough though. Can't say I'd get rid of my Gen 1 for a Gen 2 but I'd certainly like a Gen 2 as well.

Think I'd struggle to sell my perfect 53 plate racing though ;). Although if I ever do 1st dibs will be on here

Its running great I think a lot of low rev judder and vibration is most probaly me not having in the right gear but still getting used to it. The only issue I have is the air filter/breather pipe set up I've got but I'm getting some sound advice especailly of ("Nob") so hopefully I'll get that sorted soon. I ahve made some cosemtic changes new rad protector, double bubble screen, and replacement bobbins. I wont get be getting rid of mine either its the right bike for me I love it (not that way but after a couple of pints who knows)

@ Nob I can see the filter on the pipe does the pipe still go into the side of the engine with the filter on?

Nobs great when it comes to advice about bikes. Just don't ask him any advice on how to ride one as he loves driving into the back of stationary cars.

Knock any sense into you fella ;)

FFs, I just wrote a monster reply and the ****** intertwat went off. Yep, out the engine with the pipe and filter on. You could mount the filter anywhere, it only really stops oil splattering everywhere. In simmoplistic terms the engine creates gasses and they get re'routed back in to the engine to help it run a bit better and for longer.

So by taking the pipe out etc would this be reducing the life expectancy of the engine if al you're doing is putting a filter on the end to stop the oil splattering everywhere?

If you took the pipe out you'd have oil/fume everywhere. All engines create gasses and they build up and have to be released somehow. Some manufacturers, not just bikes, release them in to the air or exhaust sytsem but some re'use them like on the T. If you didn't have a breather filter they would probably blow back through the throttle boddies and out in to the air filter. If you took the engine breather out altogether I reckon the engine life would be less because they need a certain amount of pressure to function correctly. On a car you get breather pipes out of the rocker cover etc...
Someone far cleverer than me could explain this better. My ****** heads hurting.

Cunny fnut LIKE IT!!!!lol

Cheers mate I will be doing that definitely what size diameter of the neck on the filter?

cheers mate

as far as i,m aware....

4 stroke engines = crankcase pressure = its gotta go somewhere = out !!

either it goes back to yer air filter, or other..

try a coke can.

For info...If ye open the standard airbox (tank up, remove the philips screws from top of airbox, lift off lid) ye will see a wee diamond shaped bit o "pot scourer" lookin mesh in a wee side section on left hand side o the airbox. This is where the breather terminates an where the oily gases pass intae the box for recyclin back thru engine. Can get quite messy wi oily residue as the miles rack up so gently lift oot the mesh and wipe oot the excess gunk noo an again. While yer at it gie yer airfilter a clean an blaw oot as weel.

Right fellas breather pipe relocated filter fitted jobs a goodun

Is this it? It looks like the top of box has been taken off?

Should I go back to original air box

To follow on from this a couple of questions concerning this filter. I am going to service the bike soon so will i need to change this filter if so how much where do I gte them from OR can they be stripped and cleaned

Cheers

Crankcase pressure:
a. Piston goes down/piston goes up. There is zero balance is equal volume in the Twin.
b. Piston comes down from air forced over the top of piston. Rings are blown against the wall for sealing.
c. Piston ring grooves have that air still moving down the piston, upsets the balance = Pressure found via ring groove over ring groove till it hits the 10w40.

Crankcase Ventilation: [Top of head] the air can flow up thru the cam chain opening.
a. Install an out plug from the head... Good enough spot is pick a hole out the crankcase [engine].
b. Install the hose into the air cleaner. This acts as a balanced performance tune is exploit the air pulse, period. Nothing to do with closed loop emissions. This is a race trick back in the 1950's that just turned into a closed loop system. Same as cross over pipe to 'balance' that "for every reaction" take advantage of it!
c. Install that hose over the chain? You meguyveer that hose vapor [turns liquid drops] onto the chain's inside rungs. You set it to the outside, it flings out. You want to exploit the centrifugal force of the inside to fling the oil to head out covering more link.

15 Tooth Sprocket:
a. Gas mileage up the *** is out the windowho farted?
b. That rpm range is now gone from your Apriliashitune but still in the loop is that stumble.
c. Way too many rpms times engine hours. Burn out more rpm because your right wrist can't take the Apriliashitune setting?
b. Grow some hair around the wrist... Wait for the recall LOL

No still wanting to know what to do about the renegade filter
Set up when comes to servicing. Clean or replace it. How much are they?
And where can I get them from?
please
Cheers
Simmo

Simmo min...the air filter filter on mine is a PiperCross C3004REN. U can wash oot these foam filters as weel with plain water.
