Brand spankin' new to the woderul world of Aprilia...would love advice

:deviousAnd as payment for him him playin wiv yours... You can play wiv his!!:devious:devious

Hi doc, dont go for the ducati cos after you lose all the weight you want to ,you will sit on the duke and think you have put it back on again :dunno. Get the mille and eat as many pies as you want and it will still feel big and comfortable:thumbup.:pirate. The dukes a tiny bike :pirate

again thank you to all who replied...i really appreciate all of your insight (and i am starting to see how helpful the members really are...thank you)

this "small-feeling"...would it also be something that i would appreciate at 5' 8" tall?...the height of my old katana was perfect for me (at the time)

...in other words...of you who responded that the rsv was the perfect height for you...it is reasonable to assume that i may also feel the same at my height? (i live about 65 miles from the nearst aprilia dealership...but they do not have a rsv in stock...the closest dealer to me that has one in stock is in charolette, NC (about a 3 hr drive...but i plan on heading out there in the next week or 2 to get a feel) )...again thank you

Listen man, I moved over to Aprilia World a couple of months ago, yes they're heavy/tall fukcers ( I'm a real shortarse...so what), yes they're Italian ( a bit temperamental), yes the back brake is absolute crap and, yes anyone with an in-line-4 hasn't got a clue what they are....BUT who the hell cares when you get the rush of adrenaline from the word 'GO' on these bikes. I've just put some Akropovic cans on my bike which is already running on map 2 and has a K&N airfilter ...holymotherofallthingsmechanical...!!!! the bike just goes and goes and goes....the big grin you will get riding an RSV (in all it's incarnations) will make you look like the soppiest git in the world...but who cares when you can eat for breakfast just about everything on the road!!!!:thumbup You know it makes sense :biggrin:biggrin:biggrin

thanks again all...and for the info on the ducati camparison...

NewBoots brings up something that inspired a new set of questions for me if you will allow me to ask...the back brake for instance...what is so "crappy" about it...

are there other issues that rsv's have? (btw i am pretty much sold on the rsv ...the only thing that could disway me now is if seeing/sitting on it in person actually ends up being a painful experience...but i can't see that happening)

my hope is that my questions will tie up loose ends...

peace

ah right the back brake well, no to be honest whether its just me gettin used to it i dont know but mine is pretty good at the moment,,,eg,at about 20 mile an hour if pressed reasonably hard will lock the back wheel up no probs and all i use it for is scrubbing a bit of speed of into corners any way, also most rsv's i have come across the clutch is quite stiff it has been bled a few times but hey.again you soon get used to it...:biggrin

what the hell do you need a back brake for anyway it's only for show!!!!!!!!!!

when i go thru other threads there is a consistent theme in characterizing "itialian bikes" as "tempermental..." what exactly does this mean? I am coming from a katana that i basically did regualr scheduled maintainence...and that was all that was required for it to run problem free...is the a headache built into the bike? or is it just that these bikes need more TLC?

thank you again guys

Fit new brake pads and stainless brake lines and the back brake works fine :thumbup, mine works perfect when i need it.. not that often :devious

Hey man you're getting a bit too worried about the back brake thing....listen as Sharky says 'what do you need a back brake for anyway...?' I don't use mine, haven't for the last 3 or 4 years....BUT obviously when it comes to MOT testing time (or whatever you have in your neck of the woods) it needs to work....There is a simple (20min) procedure that will get it working again that Badger put a link on this forum to a while back, which is an official Aprilia fix. Get ready for fun...'cos that's all an RSVR is!!!!

Why Aprilia?

Because laughing at the brute force in my helmet everytime I turn the stock quarter turn throttle and run thru the gears is priceless!!

brookey

Mate, do the same as everyman on this forum has done, BUY ONE, nobody on here has regreted the decision to own the finest and most reliable italian V twin ever made, we can answer all the questions you throw at us but at the end of the day ya buy aprilia with ya heart not head, sorry mate but none of us can give you the heart :thumbup:thumbup

thank you to all...

i think that i have been a bit insecure...but this is also my normal - consistent - theme whenever i am going to do something exciting...

your overwelming response is to just go ahead and get the bike already...the only snag right now is my stickin' fat belly...and i have to take the time to loose the fat (but this affords me way to much time to think b/c i am not purchasing the bike right now like i would love to...in that case i would spend much much more time riding and smiling and muc much less time writing questions on this forum :thumbup )

i appreciate all of you who have taken the time to respond...what i need to do is now take your encouragement to get the rsv already and turn it into the immediate weight loss :)puke ) hahaha...

thanks guys...can't wait to post my pics one day soon

peace

one last question...
the diet and exercise have started...even though i really have my mind set on the rsv...i am not really a "race track" sort of guy...i plan on going to work a few times a month and enjoying many many rides in the country...etc...i plan on taking my wife on a few small tips as well (like a 40 mile ride to get ice cream, etc)...and going on some kick butt rides in the mountains with a few of my friends (there is a 11 mile stretch of mountainous road that has over 300 very tight turns....sweeeet!!) :thumbup

before i found the rsv, i was really looking at different class of bike (the honda vfr 800)... will the rsv be the kindof bike i am looking for? :dunno

thanks and sorry for this kind of question
peace

p.s. i have never been a "mod" type of guy either...whatever that means

M8 the honda:puke VFR has no comparison to the rsv other than its a v ,by all means have a go on a vfr and then jump on the mille and see for yourself what the difference is..:pirate.
No words can explain how the mille handles looks and sounds especially with a nice pipe fitted and your mates will be drooling for ever when they hear the rumble of your exhaust and see you leave them in the twisties, lets face it the"ll always be behind especially the bloke on the VFR :yes:yes:yes !!

Totally agree with RsvSteve, ride anything you want that is on your wish list then ride the RSV and you will understand why we are all so passionate about them:thumbup:thumbup

My last bike was a zx1200 and i had planned to go for the hyabusa next but fancied something different so i took a mille out for a run for half an hour and was hooked, id never had a v twin and never ridden one before ... the rest is history and im glad to say i made the right choice :thumbup

4 lbs to go...i have been relentless with the diet and exercise and i want to thank this entire forum for providing a much needed source of inspiration...i have lost 11 lbs thus far and i have visited a dealership in Raleigh, NC (the closest dealer) they have a beautiful 2007 (red) but i really want the 2008 silver/red...anyway just wanted to say thank you and i can't wait to meet the mark - purchase my soon to be 'beauty' - and grin from ear to ear from the first ride!!....
peace:banana

hi, welcome here mate! You're close to taste the best. I've had 3 vfr's, 2 ducatis and cbr900 plus suzukis, etc... and no one like the rsvr. Last Sunday coming back to home in my bike and riding with a friend of mine that has a suzuki gsxr1000, he said "one day I'll want to try the Aprilia". I accepted in that moment so we did it. He stopped after 30-40kmts plenty of bends. I saw a smile under his helmet. "enjoyed yourself?" I asked. "woa!, that'ssss wonderful I couldn't imagine how agile the machine is on the bends.. I love this engine, it pushes very hard when leaving the bend". The gsxr instead turned me on the times I was riding my cbr954.. and.. well.. it's another bike more full of power but with no special feeling. Brakes, frame, etc are all in a lower level. Another thing is.... mate, no comparison can be made between vfr and rsv.. it would be like comparing the hayabusa with a motogp bike..

good luck!!! :thumbup

Nice one Doc :thumbup, keep going and you will soon be the proud owner of the grin a mile rsv :pirate
