Brand spankin' new to the wonderful world of Aprilia...would love advice...please

Hello all...
Here is my ordeal...made a deal with my wife that if I drop 15lbs in wt (i'm a mild fatty) that she would let me get a bike (again.) I had a Katana 600 that I sold about 4 yrs ago to pay for some college debt and I have riden a friends gsxr-1000 (by the way the power jump from my old katana to the 1000 class is intoxicating to see the least)

Where I live, there are cbr1000s, gsxrs, and hyabusas galore...and i want something different

...so i have "stumbled" onto this brand called Aprilia...and I think that the rsv 1000r is an absolutly georgous piece of art...i love itialian bikes...Japanese bikes are nice...but they don't have that 'jen-a-say-qua'

...please be patient with my set of questions...but my hope is that i will be able to see just a glimmer of why you love what you love...here are my NEWBEE questions:
WHY?
WHY Aprilia?
Why do you love the very piece of machinary that you ride?
What is it about the ride that makes Aprilia owners know that they have the very best, most enjoyable, most invigorating ride?
What puts your bike over others (i.e. ducati)?

thank you for any and all responses...i start my diet and intense exercise program in the morning...and i hope to own a rsv 1000r within the next 6-7 months:banana peace

Exotic, beautiful, unique, harmonious, powerful, unbelievable handling, well balanced, and affordably priced.

Having had over 20 bikes in my time and none of them italian and none of them v twins, i find myself re living the fun factor you get from such a machine as the mille. Ok even though mine is an old model it does everything i need it to and much more easily than an in line 4 cos of the wieght they have, it handles superb and it looks and sounds like no other bike around.

Its just the best and you wont regret bying one.:yes:thumbup.

hey rsvsteve just remember us guys with the older(pre 03) models have all the torque and fun.The earlier models seem to have a more aggresive power delivery, they seem to have softened up the latermodels(wouldnt say no to one though)
Not that I beleive everything in MCN(or anything) but the fugures they gave for the later mille, was something like 118 bhp and only 68 ft-lbs torque, no where near as powerfull as my 02 and heavier too.

Food for thought, i never new that secret:thumbup, sometimes the first of the new is the best after all eh:thumbup. Cheers m8.

yeah you would think the later model would have loads more torque and bhp, meeb they do I'm not sure,(no doubt someone will put me right) I know that when I put my CER 57mmTb's on mine it should go from t 123 .5bhp to hopefully 128-130 with c map. Plus the new bikes weigh 189kg dry, mine weighs 175kg wet(loadsa carbon and Ti)
yeehaawww!!

thank you ALL who replied to my questions

...it sounds (so far) that its just something i will need to experience for myself...i am soooo looking forward to this "spiritual experience" (haha)

...as far as comparing to ducati...is it just the price (which is actually reason enough) or are there more reasons? i have an aquaintence who had a ducati about 4-5 yrs ago and he was what i call a "ducati snob" (but his bike was beautiful)...for him it was ducati or nothing...but as i spoke with him and questioned why HIS bike was better than all others, he could never give me numbers or data...only that HE knew he was on a great machine...is it similar with the aprilia? or will i have to dream about what expeience i think i am going to have...and then be totally blown away by the REAL experience when i finally loose my fatty stomach?

peace...and thank you in advance for letting me experience something (although it is only words) before i actually get the product

Doc,

Words can not explain take one for a test ride:biggrin:biggrin... once you get on it you will understand why we are so passionate about the beloved beast.:thumbup:thumbup

thank you for the 'welcome' crashtd...

Although i am drooling over the rsv, does anyone have any real life experience in riding a 998 or something like that in a ducati and how does it compare... i am asking to help me solidify my decision because i want to know deep down in my very being that i have made the most incredible purchase...
...or do i need to quit being mildly insecure and loose my stickin' fat and get the bike already??? :eatcorn --> :puke (j/k)

p.s. can't wait until i get to experience "barp! barp!"

Doc,

I have wridden a Duke 916 and a Suzuki TL1000 (both before the Mille) and my views are still that i made the best decision with the Mille... (Oh yea - and being small it ended up givin me back ache!)

The duke felt small, reasonably responsive, BUT, the guy who own's it has had no end of problems - And he seems to have a bottomless wallet and pretty much throws money at it...

The TL felt HUGE - And i had a ride on it before and after i helped rip out the stupid rotary damper... And it still felt like a huge beast of a bike that would try and spit you off if you wernt inch perfect on the road...

WHEREAS - onto my Mille - Even though its an old one (98) it felt bigger than the duke and smaller than the TL... The ideal situation you might say... THe handling, mechanics, looks, style, and generally the level of help you can get from people on here on any (no matter how stupid) questions...

So out of the three - i would pick the RSV every time... My suggestion is like RSVR47 said - Take one for a test ride and you will understand...

Abakab

Hello Doc,yes i have ridden a couple of Ducati's, 749 and a 996, both very nice but ducati's and most jap litre sportsbikes alike feel really small,
personaly if i ride a 1000cc bike i like it to look and feel like a 1000cc bike not a 400cc, oh yeah aprilia's, great fun, well built, and look damn cool as well,(well the new shape does anyway...:devious)................:thumbup

i've ridden the 998, all i can say is its a weird bike to be on....super narrow. Its really something you have to try yourself, i don't think i can put it in words...i was kinda turned off by it (lot's of vibration).

BUT the brakes are AMAZING!!! holy ****.

rs3 mille he's got a 998 DUCATI a yellow one, he says that feels a bit small, but very manoverable...:thumbup

again thank you to all who replied...i really appreciate all of your insight (and i am starting to see how helpful the members really are...thank you)

this "small-feeling"...would it also be something that i would appreciate at 5' 8" tall?...the height of my old katana was perfect for me (at the time)

...in other words...of you who responded that the rsv was the perfect height for you...it is reasonable to assume that i may also feel the same at my height? (i live about 65 miles from the nearst aprilia dealership...but they do not have a rsv in stock...the closest dealer to me that has one in stock is in charolette, NC (about a 3 hr drive...but i plan on heading out there in the next week or 2 to get a feel) )...again thank you

Ive been on Rs3 Ducati, think it depends on which model ya buy, knees seemed high and arm position not comfy on it, it does feel very small, can chuck it around easily though, theres just something special about the aprilia, it never seems to stop pleasin ya on the twisty bits, corner after corner the torque just pulls ya round and out, i love mine and can honestly say ill never go jap inline 4 again :thumbup:thumbup:thumbup oh and im 5ft 6 and weigh in at 10st 7lb, although the aprilia in my opinion is a tall bike it just feels right, but then a bloke of 6ft 2 will tell you its right for him too, just great bikes for all riders
