After 7000 miles of having a back brake (Repeat thats 7000 miles WITH a back brake), its packed up completely and utterly :jack

The pedal just goes all the way to the bottom of its travel with no resistance at all.

I have tried bleeding it every which way humanly possible with no effect, could the seals have gone ??

what do you need it for ho yes to let the man rideing behinde you that a bend is coming up:nana:nana

just had the same with mine after 6000+ miles....unbolted the caliper, hung it bleed nipple at highest point and left it a while...few taps with rubber mallet and bled.....spot on again now :thumbup

Mine has started travelling quite far now with little effect. The bite( what I can best call a bite) used to be high up but now the lever goes a ling way and feels spongy.

Only use it round town but it's worse than it used to be. Only thing that's been done is unbolting the caliper to get the wheel out. Strange things rear brake on the ape. Rears brakes on other bikes used to be awesome.

I reckon it's the caliper as my bro used to have an 02 zx9r that had the same brembo rear caliper and that felt spongy with little bite aswell. :rant

occasionally I like to use it ..........................its a comfort thing :confused, like one of them blanket things

Mines perfect...Bought the Aprilia heat shield, and plonk an old railway sleeper on the brake pedal every night, and the pedals back to solid feeling everytime I use it..Which is a novelty after only having a back brake that worked for 300 miles after a service before the pedal went to the bottom of its travel..

If you read the original technical spec for the RSV you'll find that the back brake is designed like this as an early form of ABS - you ain't never gonna lock that mutha.

Right folks, I really do need some help here

I must have pumped the best part of 500mls of brake fluid through this bloody rear brake and still nada :jack

The pedal goes clean to the floor , although the pads do move together theres no pressure as you can push the pads aprt with your fingers and subsequent pumping of the brake lever changes nothing.

So what can it be , currently the caliper is hung nipple highest from the exhaust hanger and has been over night , that has made no difference either.

I had this exact problem with mine, and wasted nearly a litre of fluid before trawling through the archives to try every known cure.

The only one that worked for me was:

Fit all brake parts back onto bike.

and wedge the rear brake pedal as far as possible in the fully on Position (down) and leave it overnight.

I used a length of wood, and it angled at nearly 75 degree's. Some people were hanging stuff off theie pedal but i used a piece of wood measured to the correct length and forced it in between the footpeg and lever.

Thenext day, i took the wood out, pumped and held the pedal down while cracking open the nipple and closing it, then refitted the wood and left it another day.

The next day, i had one of the best rear brakes any of my many bikes have ever had.

good luck and let us know how you get on.

You have trapped air.

You have to make sure the pistons are pushed right back and then rotate the the caliper whilst tapping it with a spanner or similar and then give it a little bleed again nipple uppermost.
Do that a few times and it should come back again.

A syringe helps also.

Right I shall give that a go this evening ............................:uhoh

Thanks for being diplomatic Spoonz (Was expecting a commant about trapped wind)

Being a Kiwi is humilation enough don't ya think :devious

soz couldn't resist

Pull the caliper right up so it almost sits on the seat, you need to take can off and brake line routing shield under the swingarm, then wedge the pads right back so the pistons are as far back as possible, use dot 4, bleed as normal with caliper nipple as high as you can.:thumbup

Bakkus Brakeus Returnuss :thumbup

Follwed the Badger, Spoonz & Beanie process and I now have a very good and functional back brake :doug

Wanna come and do mine?
