Going back home last night, after a days work, and taking it really carefully and slow, Moving off at traffic light, rear wheel span over some black ice/grease and sent me in a highside. Tried and tried and nearly manged to save it, but eventually fell, ending with a bruised ego, dented pride and cracked fairing panels/mirror/indicator.....
Suggestions as to next course of action will be appreciated!
Shall I claim from my insurance or blame the highways agency?
And I had just spent ages in the morning washing and buffing my beauty..:angry

Sorry to read this mate, if you post up a list of bits you need if I have any you can have them.

I'll keep an eye out whilst trawling around Ebay too.

Repair it yourself, at least you'll know it has been done properly and won't have to pay hiked insurance premiums next year and forever after.

Gutted, I feel for you, i had the same thing happen a couple of years ago to me and my ninja, that was caused by kwak carb icing, so decided that i won't risk riding in freezing temps anymore on any decent bikes, that way, if i do lose it and it gets damaged, i wont be so bothered.

I can't wait to get out on my rsv, but for the moment, its definetly staying in the garage, i'll just ride dogs for the moment......

Hope your council stumps up for the bill, it would be a double pisser if you have to make a claim on your insurance and then losing no claims bonus etc.

Good luck

Sorry to hear of that Stefano. We all passed you i think when you must have been on your way to work at @ 1pm yesterday.:confused

I was at the front of a pack of 7 RSV's:devious

Not the kind of start ya need for 2009 fella is it?
Good news you're ok tho.
The parts are replacable, i fear a claim on Insurance necessary tho IMO.

****** news bud......worth trying through the council first as you've nothing to lose, failing that repair yourself as insurance co's will use any 3excuse to f*ck on the premium. All the best dude......

Sorry to hear that mate.
I would definitely have a go at the council - they pay out millions a year for pothole damage to people's car suspension - but I fear you'll have to prove negligence on their part. I hit some black ice on a roundabout last night in the car (managed to save it) and there was grit/salt all over the road. Just hadn't had enough time/traffic to be ground in and become effective.
My brother is currently making me up some carbon ears using mine as a pattern and I asked him to knock up a couple of extra sets. When he comes through with them (dunno how long) I'll let you know.

Initial estimates, after a casual inspection are: front top fairing needs replacing, right indicator needs replacing, mirror is saveable (I think), Right ear needs replacing.
I can live with the miror crack on the left fairing.
All I want is to be back on the road.
My winter hack is still lame, waiting for insurance to cough up, after dozy lorry driver knocked it down whilst parked in Mayfair London. So Mille-R is really the only mode of transport for me. Car's to bloody expensive to park in London, and it sends me to sleep. And the public transport does not agree with my restaurant shifts.
Tuesday morning I will know better, Mille-R's going to my friendly local garage, and getting a look by an expert.

I feel for you mate - gutted!

Having done something similar on gravel and tried charging the highway agency/council as i pay my road tax for them to kep the roads in good order..... it took me months and was passed to about 8 different departments and in the end got no where! But it is worth a try

As for insurance - don't unless you really have to or you will still be paying in many years time even if you do have protected no claims

Diary simply said - Bugger!

TT

mate gutted for you hate seeing any bike go down the road and am now worried myself as i have to travel into the city myself tommorrow and weather isn't good:eek:

Like Areessmill says, drop us a line of what's required and we'll dig in and sort it out....I have a few original bits and pieces lying in the loft you can use no problem....screen, can indicators etc...... just let us know bud.....

That sucks mate, sorry to here that. On a positive your OK and at low speed hope you get the bike sorted soon.Craig :thumbup

Train?? In the Snow?? Am I the only one who distrusts British Rail and the wrong kind of snow???
I agree with you all, an alternative mode of transport is required, and I will be thinking long and hard. Bus is a no-no.
BTW: lawanswer.co.uk said that this was an "Act of God" so no agency will claim responsibility, and I don't think I will have any luck with the CoE.

Bugger....is the exhaust damaged :dunno looks like the ear took most of the sliding damage and saved your fairings from severe scuffing. Hope you get fixed up (cheaply) soon :thumbup

The exhaust is undamaged. Besides I still have the original can in the box.
Went to the garage today and had an expert eye over the Prillie and here's the prognosis:
RH ext.air duct, Front fairing, RH Front indicator, Mirror joint cup, RH Carbon baffle.
The RH side fairing is also damaged, but I fear that the cost is prohibitive. Why is plastic so expensive? Mind you, the carbon baffles are £142+ each new!!! I wanted to thank you all in advance for the support and understanding you showed, and most of all for the kind offer of help, which kind of restored my lost faith in humankind, that there are some nice people out there.

Hope you all have a great 2009, considering mine did not start in the best of ways.

Stefano
