Biker deaths on increase?

My local news has reported that there has been an "alarming rise" in motorbike deaths in North Yorkshire. Basically in the countryside areas there were 7 deaths last year and 11 this year. Now if you play fast and loose with statistics, thats a 60% increase, which sounds a lot more dramatic than a total number of 4 more.

Anyway, I'm not for a minute saying I think a single death is ok, but we all know there are nutters on bikes and arseholes in cars (was seriously t-boned myself last year in a classic 'didn't see you mate' accident).

The thing is, now the cops have latched onto this and tomorrow they are having a big show of force in North Yorkshire, which is where I'm heading for a day out. This will now be an excuse to stop bikes and hand out fixed penalties for small number plates and loud exhausts, as these are obviously major factors in road deaths.

I believe it all comes down to one thing.......Statistics,

Example: Motorcyclists are involved in an accident, three are very seriously injured and one, unfortunately, dies. If two of the other three are deemed life threatening, it is highly likely that they will be recorded as a fatality. Giving a total of three fatalities on paper. The information will probably not get updated if the two later make a full recovery and reflect that only one death occurred.

The government receives the recorded information and then come to us at election time etc. "There have been 20% more deaths in this area this year on this road, we are committed to reduce this...blah, blah, blah." Then we vote for them and the cops are then instructed to step up patrols etc in these areas.

Obviously I could be wrong but "figures" is what our government relies on, regardless of political party. If they were interested in us as individuals they would send deepest sympathy cards to our families if it was us who died.

Here endith the lesson or as Yul Brynner said, "Let it be said, let it be done."

Fluk, am I really that old. Nah!, my wife watched it yesterday and I had to endure it, that love thing.............

The sad thing with statistics is they are used & massaged to suit whatever purpose is needed at the time. The "alarming increase" is used to brainwash people into linking motorbikes with death. The media is controlled by the government, and as the government wants bikes off the road, we have such headlines, it helps in their cause. They also tell the Police what to do, hence us being targeted all the time. I know a few cops who ride bikes who are against the tactics, and talk to bikers rather than give out tickets. Its their way of going against this ridiculous government.
