Mind where them sparks are going if you do that, dont wanna fry anything expensive!
If your taking them out i'd change em for the sake of 18 quid.

Eye will do .......... :thumbup

Thanks for all the advice fellas :thumbup.. let you know how it goes or not so to speak :roll:thumbup

If you smell petrol then forget the tilt sensor. It cuts power to the injectors etc when activated.

Nice day today.... washed the bike taking care not to splash the electricals and clocks, bike looks sweet... push the start button and all she's doing is spinning over and not sparking into life :no:no First thought is battery ? so on the optimate. I tried to start her 3 times and heard the battery going weak on me and thought best not to keep trying to start her in case i do more damage :roll Tried the open full throttle trick on the last attempt but no joy............ :confused:confused maybe order a yam relay :dunno

Combination of being very cold meaning thicker engine oil to move in the motor, and a weak battery, if you only tried three times and it went weak i would say your battery was not good mate, you need a strong battery for these things, when you eventually tried the full throttle trick you had weakened your battery to much by then, i reckon it is flooded, make sure your battery is good and try again , if it does not start of the fast idle, then use the full throttle trick.

You right mate i feel the battery has a lot to answer for on these bikes the amps needed to turn the beast over especially when cold, doesn't take a lot to weaken the battery especially after the winter locked away in the garage! think the key is New battery and keep on a optimizer all the time, and the non start issue will be a thing of the past:devious

Yes, spot on mate, if your battery is on it's way out it will knacker the solenoid if you keep trying top start it, there is no point in thinking your battery will improve, it won't, you will just have more bother than it's worth, your battery will pack in soon anyway if it is showing signs just now.

I just bought one of these, more power + easier starting and longer life

Update on the bike..... The optimate was on for over 12 hrs and she sparked into life as normal with the first push :doug:doug, coming home from a night out last night the car was reading -6  so i thought there was no way the bike would start but it has and it will be left on the optimate all the time now :thumbup

Thanks fellas i can sleep at ease now :thumbup

Ps just to add, i never took the plugs out , just on the optimate and all was fine .

Just above the battery on the 04 is a small tilt cut out switch....yours maybe the same....sounds like a ball bearing in it....been told it can stick now and again....give it a flick to see if you can hear the the ball bearing noise

Number 8 in the diagram http://www.apriliayorkshire.co.uk/c...SV 1000 2000&_pagename=Rear electrical system

If its your battery you will hear a click click sound as its trying to power the starter relay

Twas wondering what that little thing was when i was stripping the bike?? glad you mentioned it I was gonna remove it wiv the alarm..but as i havent got a clue about removing alarms i didnt bother
:biggrin

Tilt cut switch :roll do all bikes have these :dunno first ive heard of one :roll

Mmm thats what was confusing :confused still nice to know if your bikes on top of you that the fuel has been cut off and the bike stopped from running :eatcorn

I had this twice now when really cold first time I checked everything just like you. Plugs, relays, side stand etc etc.

Then read about the full throttle start, no idle adjust and just start it at full throttle and away she went.

Badger's the man that will explain m8 ... i would be guessing :thumbup

helps the starter spin quicker because the throttle is open it doesn't have to use as much effort to suck the air in (it doesn't actually suck but you know what i mean) i think!

full throttle starts....just knock the throtle off immediatley after she starts or it will feck the sprag clutch.thankfully only had to do a full throttle start once, but ,as has been said, good battery power is essential with these beasties and they need to be warm too...thankfully I can park her indoors these days
cheers
CK

-6 i cant even imagine that , and here i was complaining to myself that it was raining on the way home today
