It seems to me that Aprilia Mille owners are more mechanically adept than your average jap bike owner, we also seem to be more interested in modding our bikes as well, other than just an exhaust can.

We also seem to be more enthusiastic about our bikes as well, i am sure Ducati owners are the same, maybe not so many Ducati owners will be mechanically minded, but i am sure they have the same enthusiasm.

I have had a diet of jap bikes up till i bought my first Mille in 99 and never even considered going japanese again, i have had Mille's for 10 years now and still :inlove mine to bits.

What do i buy next though, RSV4:dunno

I know one or two on here have had some bad experiences with theirs, i can honestly say in over 60k miles of pretty hard riding on m ine i have not had any major problems like sprags (caused by bad starting practices) or any other major items.

I have replaced a few bearings, fork seals, the odd disc and battery, but all in my bikes have been ace.

Tinkering with my bikes is a fave pastime, gets me away from Mrs Badger:pirate and getting my bikes the way i want it to look and perform.

Anyway, i think we are a kinda special bunch of geeks:thumbup

aright I reedited the post, I thought you were "considering" a jap bike. my bad, my contacts are getting dry. Good night folks.

isn't she sexy? they shed some pounds on it perfect for commuting and messing around.

SY Stoppie Slaps Badger on his left rear fairing ! bad bad badger! (tires screeching, kaboom!, sirens wailing)

I'd definetaly go with the RSV4 unless you wanna get a Turbo Busa like the Swedish Ghost Rider! lol

Completely agree buddy......i have no (or VERY little mechanical knowledge or experience) but since buying the RSV 3 years ago have found myself wanting to know more about the way it's put together and works. As for modding, JESUS!! I think most of you know what i've done to mine (as most of you have helped in one way or another!) but it now FEELS and LOOKS like my own personal bike, something that i never did with my R1, F/Blade, ZX7-R's (barring cans) etc....

I think this forum helps alot, as i would NEVER have contemplated trying half of what i've done myself without the knowledge and help of the experienced guys on here. I've also found that everyone is SO willing to go out of their way to help other RSV owners. It really is a great place......SO THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR HELP ( i'm sure i'll be asking for miore in the future!!)...............:thumbup

Hi!I'd go with all you've both said.Out on my '01,when it snowed last week and still had a smile on my face. These machines have definitely got soul.AL

Ditto with Badger on this.

To me these bike's have so much character and soul that's it's hard not to become attached to them in a way that Japanese bikes just fail to do, though the new 09 Yamaha R1 might break this mould

I'm on my 3rd Mille, an 02 RSV, a new shape 04 RSVR and my current and best 02 R. In over 35000 miles on these bikes, i've only needed to replace a battery, a fork seal and a bulb so for me reliability has been amazing.

At some point i'll replace the 02 R but as Badgers points out what with? The V4 for me might just be too small physically

My dilemma exactly.

V4 too expensive, potentially fickle to begin with and too small and i want a twin. That's a criteria Aprilia can no longer fill unless you want a shiver etc.

Hence i went Ducati

For me a good Italian twin is like a lady and you need to pamper it.
Quite often they represent more of an investment in time and money terms than a jap bike so command a bit more respect.
Neglect it and it will likely complain like a lady whereas the jap bike is like Stacey from eastenders. A bit of rough that's always up for it, you can fool around on, spend £2 entertaining and probably won't expect a kebab afterwards.:dowhat

Hows the Ducati going Spoonz any concerns??

Ohhh sore point.

Long story short i discovered a manufacturing defect with the Showa shock when setting my preload which renders the bike unuseable as it's not safe.

Lucky for me i found it now and not when the back end collapsed mid corner.
Won't know what they are gonna do about it till tomorrow.

Bloody Japs can't even put a shock together properly. :rant

Pissed off ? slightly :angry

The dealer doesn't know yet.

Only found out late Friday after exchanging pictures with various shock techs and a Ducati forum that we established what was actaully going on.

The dealer is Ducati Aylesbury so not exactly local and the bike can't be ridden so will need a van.
Some of you might know them as On Yer Bike Aprilia as they have 2 dealerships on the site.

So far they have been very good but up until now we have not had a problem so time will tell.

hey spoonz bad look with the shock mate , i love the 1098 sexy sexy bike ,i just got back from devils bridge (my local brew/bike stop) and there where 5 1098's there ,the weather was rainy ish at times but nothing heavy at all ,anyway to get to my point all of the 1098's head lights where very badly steamed up which i would find very disapointing having paid so much money .great bikes but why do they let slip simple stuff like that it sort of ruins the experience for me slightly just like the first time my rsv rear light did it .. i know this is swearing but japs dont do that! . dont worry am not going to the dark side i just think all manufacturers could learn a little even our beloved aprilia .. megga rant over ;-)

Mines an 848 but using the same headlight i guess.

Japs are not infalable as the K5/K6 owners with the cracking frames are finding out.

yeah good point , the 848 has the better clutch (not the usual bag of angry spanners that dukes have ) nice bike that mate ,maybe you can look at how to stop the light misting up eh?

Yep know them only too well (quite local to me) & not to cause worry Colin - but wait till you select number 3 for parts on thier automated system to then be routed through to a voicemail (EVERY TIME), I am yet to have my calls returned, I now will not use them - they have pissed me about way too much ........................ but in saying that maybe if you buy the bike from them then they may well be more helpful.

What is this about not heard of this.

A close friend at work has a K5 600. I bet he's not heard of this.

it was in the MCN last week - bloke who had his fail at the TT and cause some horrific injuries is suing suzuki so they are now offering to fit an extra brace to the bikes.
