Another starting problem

Adjusted my TPS so the dash reads 0 now. Tried out the Titanium chip with the broke pin. Bike fired up for a few seconds then died down as I had no fast idle on.
Put my standard a63 chip back in but now it won't even start. Engine turns over and rumbles as if it's about to fire up, but nothing apart from that. Just got battery on charge to see if that makes a difference, but if not, what could it be?

Is that while you're holding the starter button? Not too sure, don't think so.

I think if there's a major problem with the chip then when the ignition is turned on the efi light comes on immediately and does not go off (ie does not change the display to 'cold' after a few seconds). Also when I had a chip issue the fuel pump did not prime (there was no noise from the pump immediately after ignition turned on).

?That might explain the brief start and then nothing that you are experiencing.

Have you checked that the pump primes?

Also could be something as simple as a loose fuse as you've been in and around that area, pull fuses clean and put back, or maybe other connections around that area :)

Managed to get it running. Took spark plugs out and cleaned 'em (pretty oily).
So think it might be manky plugs or a leak of some sort.
Even though my new chip has a pin missing, the bike did still fire up and run earlier. Weird.

Seems strange that it passes whatever check the ecu does of the chip when you turn the ignition on. Maybe that pin is not used!

That's what I was thinking/hoping.

Talking about the trim pots earlier and the chip. What difference does having the Titanium chip over the standard one have? And what difference does it make by adjusting the trim pots?

Thanks for that. Hmmmmmm, time for a coffee I think though

I can take a bike apart and re-build it no problem, but lil adjustment things like this, no idea!

Make that a large mug-full! ;)

I'll have a go at most things on the bike but don't always feel confident. Everything usually works out in the end and I've not f**ked up anything serious or expensive (or dangerous) in 30 years of fiddling.

At least these days there are forums like this one if you get stuck! :)

Rob :)
