If akagilo and tuboy manage to log back in drop me an e-mail as I've sorted out the route for next Saturday weather permitting. Lovely route from Abergavenny taking in the likes of Peterchurch, Hay on Wye (honeypot cafe stop over for breakfast), onto Brecon and back to Aber or up to Builth, Llandovery then back to Aber.

Hey bay

Sounds good to me, what sort of time were you thinking of leaving Aber? Assuming Tuboy gets in touch I can hook up with him leaving Bristol and meet you at the bus station.

I don't think the PMs you sent previously had the option to reveal your e-mail addy - if you want to e-mail me it's: gileyd <AT> hotmail <DOT> com

Cheers

Giles

Hi Giles, ahve noted down your e-mail. Mine [email protected] in case the site goes down again. Timewise was thinking 9.30 to 10am from Abergavenny. Did part of the route in my car the other day when I had surveys to do down that area. 60mph country roads so in some places there's a bit of muck which should keep us on our toes but nothing too serious. Not sure of the speeds on the bikes as it'll be my 1st time on the roads myself so will probably take it a little cautious and won't go over the 100mph mark. Only joking I reckon as a 1st run will probably keep it at a nice even pace and see what time we make. Theres some sharp bends on the route but they're cracking roads.

Not sure what route you want to take. Longer one or shorter one. Shorter one with stops should be 3 hours longer one with 2 stops plus one back at Abergavenny I reckon 4 hours.

Andrew

Sounds good, re whether to do the short or long route, depends on the weather I guess, if it's dry / not too cold I'm up for the long route. I've sorted out a pass from the missus :)

Happy to take it fairly steady as it's new roads, plus there's less grip about at this time of year.

Here's hoping for good weather....

Might put a post out on the general open forum saying ride out on the 16th. My missus said I was going to miss a 3 year olds birthday party due to the rideout. Result I thought

Here's hoping this great weather holds until Saturday. Didn't have much spare time on Saturday, but managed to get out on the T for a blast up to Monmouth up the Wye Valley, and back along the top road. It was great, but twice as I got on the gas coming out of a corner the back end stepped out, so the roads are getting slippier.

This flaming new site. Just tried to post and it crashed. I didn't manage to get out this weekend. Neighbour had flu *** and met him at 9 at back of my garage all kitted up and he said he didn't feel like going. We had friends over so just decided to wheel the bike back in and go make breakfast for everyone. Didn't look the best at 9am either so maybe best if we meet about 10am to 10.30 next sat give it chance to warm up a bit. It was nice in the afternoon though.

What tyres are you running. I've got a pair of Pirelli Corsa III's on mine. Starting to square off ever so slightly but I've had no issues of skipping out or stuff with them. Had a set of Avon on my BMW and they were pretty good as well. Goijg for a set of Dunlop Road Smart's in the next few hundred miles though.

Agree with a 10-10.30 start - we can decide for sure when we check the forecast on Friday.

I've got the Metzeler Renntecs that came on the bike. Never used Metz before (been a Bridgestone man for years) but they're very good. With 2,300 miles on they're getting a bit worn but I want to get a few more rides this year out of them and I'll stick some new hoops on in the Spring. Tbh the rear stepping out was probably my fault giving it too much of a handful given the amount of wet soggy leaves on the road.

You seem a faster rider than me. Just tried that conversation thing on your profile but not sure how it works. I checked the I phone and weather supposed to be brilliant for Saturday. Full sun in the sky or so it seems.
Do u use msn messenger or anything like that?

Whats the usual speed u go. I've a feeling you might be a bit quicker than me and I'm not one to try and impress on roads I haven't done on a bike before.

It's all relative mate, I'd say I'm a reasonably quick road rider, but there's plenty far faster than me. As I said on a thread on the "old" forum, I have a wife and two daughters so getting home in one piece to them is far more important than any heroics.

Come Saturday it's your route so I'm happy for you to set the pace. I'd never encourage anyone to ride out of their comfort zone, we all know the potential consequences of doing that......

A nice steady ride with fry-up , a few cups of tea, and a good chat will do me fine! :)

I think we'll do the long route but if I miss a turning somewhere bear with me. I normally ride in the opposite direction but have always wanted to ride these roads. The lads I go with do the same route over and over again and never try anything different. I made a joke one day that I tyhink my bike knows the way better than me we do it so often. They didn't seem to get that. I keep trying to suggest other routes but no its Brecon, Llandovery, Builth and home. Arrrgghhhhh.

Still trying to think the best place to stop off for breakfast. Might have to pop into Brecon and double back up to Builth.

Whats your normal route when u come over the Bridge.
Chepstow, Usk, Raglan old road to Abergavenny then?

Long route sounds good to me. I think I'll know a fair few of the roads we'll do, but there'll be some new ones too which I'm looking forward to.

Yes - that's the way I always come. The Chepstow-Usk Rd is one of my all time favourites, I love tight twisty roads that are all corners. Long straight sections are ok but the temptation is always to cane it and all it takes is one speed trap.... Mind you some of my mates hate that road, they think it's too much like hard work, still we all have different tastes!

I do ride Aber - Brecon - Llandovery - Builth an awful lot, but then it is cracking roads. That said I do need to find some new routes in Wales. I did head up to Rhyader in August on my own one morning which was pretty good, and found a decent breakfast stop too. I want to head up around Newtown etc next summer, also West across to Aberystwyth.

Well give me a shout and I'll try those routes. There's some nice roads up towards Newtown, Kington etc. I've not ventured down to West Wales. Saying that I've been told if you head straight on at the West End cafe in Llandovery theres a cracking road down towards Swansea that way but I've never tried it. One of the boiler technicians I use said he's going to give me a shout one day and he's going to show me.

PS I love the Chepstow Usk road as well. I tend to stick to roads I know though as my sense of direction is the worse. Sat Nav'sare my best friend. Wouldn't worry so much about getting lost but the range on bikes aint like cars and one missed turn and u may end up out of petrol.
