Hi All,

Rode to work yesterday, lovelly wet south london roads.
But made it without a problem from the Ape itself...
Jumped aboard to ride home though, and the clutch lever was loose as hell, felt like the cable had gone or something, first was still engaged even with the lever squished in.

The ride home was interesting to say the least. Couldn't get the bugger out of first witout a fight, had to forget about neutral, and learnt a whole new technique for off the brake, instant throttle wheelies :doug as the beast was never fully disengaged from first with the lever fully in when stopped!:puke

I've got a sick feeling that someone has fingered my ape while it was parked up yesterday, but i'd love there to be a simpler explaination...
Any ideas what might have caused this? I'm buggin out slightly as she was fine when I parked it. Don't really know what to check, and really don't like the prospect of using public :jacksport two days in a row....

Cheers guys.

have you lost any fluid in the master cylinder~?..has a seal gone kaput in the slave cylinder?...did you adjust the lever span to help?

I tried adjusting the lever span, which made a little difference. But when I tried this morning, pulled lever in, snap first gear in and she'd jump and cut out stright away.

All fluids presnet and correct. Thanks for the hydrolic info, sounds daft, but i'm a technical novice!

Also, where's the clutch actuating pin locking screw located? Looks like I needs a weekend with Dr Haynes.

The actuating pin can be seen by pushing the lever forward and looking where the lever touches the rubber if you get what I mean :dunno If you cannot see a pivot pin there, then the wee bugger has done a runner, although i'd be surprised as they are stubborn as hell normally even to adjust and from memory can't be unscrewed completely from the lever side (in other words they can only be screwed forward to get it out completely).

Are you saying that there is no/little pressure/resistance on the lever when you pull it in?

Oooooh kay.

I've just called 'er indoors, who tells me the clutch fluid res - is empty.
Which is weird as I checked that on Sunday night with the brake res, both were topped up and ok.

I'll have to have a look for the pin location when I get home tonight. What's the likelyhood I could have drained the fluid over the last three days?

Cheers again

As you've no clutch fluid in the reservoir, my guess is you've had the seal in the clutch slave cylinder fail. You can buy replacemnt seal kits i believe. Most fit either an MPL clutch slave for less pressure on the lever

Cheers Legs. Sounds like that might be the problem.

I've only been riding the ape for a week after having it sitting for almost a year.

Ebayyyy!
Cheers.

Youll need to bleed the clutch afterwards aswell.

Better off getting an MPL unit that is easier on the hand and u wont have to bleed it every 500 miles like the OEM.

Im sure their are some guys close to you that can help.

In fact AMB is in Sittingbourne thats not a million miles away although he does require alot of tea and biscuits to get going tho

Sittingbourne, crikey your way out Tim!

Phoeno, I work in Croydon and have a mate that lives in Wallington. I visit him at weekends sometimes for a beer or a ride out, if you need a hand fitting the clutch slave drop me a PM and if I'm free I'll pop round and give you a hand. :thumbup

I don't take the bike in mate, too many thieves in Croydon. :eatcorn

Watch out for a black Mercedes-Benz. :thumbup

Yes and I didnt think your Friday night "attire" was public knowledge.................but I guess it is now !!, The Village will never be the same again :devious

You being racist again Mr kiwi?

Nowt wrong with short people, nothing a set of 6" heels wouldn't sort out anyhow. :doug

Shhhhhhht.

Been bleeding the replacement MC fo about a week! Still have no pressure in the line, despite seeing no air bubbles.
Clutch leaver is as limp as eddy izzard, in fact i'm startin to feel that way too!

Oh and this might make me look an ***** but, ho important is it to get the correct torque on the Master C?
Any ideas? Ideas minus a syringe that is - (trying to find one of those in croydon was a joke last weekend, so i've been trying to use the standard halfords bottle and pipe jobby!)

Man this sucks, first dry night for two weeks too!

i replaced the seal on my clutch slave a few weeks ago. Nearly gave up after i couldn't get any pressure at all. Then i tapped all along from the lever to the slave, just with the end of a spanner and then it was fine. It only takes a tiny bubble.
