Hi everyone...
2005 Aprilia RSV 1000R Factory
Getting ready for the season. I hook up trickle charger and set it to "start" in an effort to boost/start bike and let warm up to change oil while battery charges on trickle. I crank the bike over a couple times but it was obvious the battery needed to charge a bit first because it would crank then the solenoid clicks and nothing. While attempting to crank the bike over I hear what sounds to be, the battery boiling if you will. I immediately unplug charger. I set the charger on trickle charge and decided to give it time to charge.
Two hours later and the charger says battery is charged. I turn the key on and have full dash function complete with fuel pump. After waiting for the tachometer to return to 0rpm, I attempt to start the bike However, the bike wouldn't crank over and the fuel pump would start to run again. If I turn the key on and quickly try to start the bike it will fire up, but shuts downs immediately. It's seems to be like a security issue... Bike will crank over and even start if I push the ignition button immediately after turning key to run position, but shuts down immediately. If I try to restart, it does the same thing it did when I let the tachometer reset to 0rpm... It won't crank over and when I push the ignition button, the fuel pump starts to run again. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance.

Have you checked that all your connectors and wiring are clean and corrosion free?

Don't really think that is my problem... But I did check all the connectors in the rear of the bike and nothing appeared burnt or distorted.

The bike cranked over fine before charging. I'm afraid I cooked something trying to boost it.
Again, the engine will crank and even start if I push the ignition button immediately after turning key to run position (not waiting for tachometer to zero), but dies within a second or two. If I let the ecm do its check first (tachometer raises and then zeros), when I push the ignition button, the fuel pump starts to prime again and that's it.
Thanks

That's why you need to check your connections and wiring, not just visually, but with a meter, too. Being able to plug it into a diagnostics would be beneficial, too.

My bike was running fine one day. Went to use it a few days later, and the EFI warning remained on and wouldn't start. It turned out to be a corroded power wire, which took ages to find, by the way. That's Italian elcrics for you!

High guys, hope u get ur probs sorted m8! I'm on my third aprilia an I'm hoping third time lucky cause they don't seem to have any durability on alot of fronts! Particularly the starting probs an sprag clutches!! Any Japanese bike iv owned have never gi me an issue really! I swapped a fireblade for my most recent rsv. Everybody said I was mental but there's just something that draws me to them! The looks an the fact I look v-twinns + the noise is just music to my ears!

I've been warned never to jump start my aprilia as it knackers the electrics such as the clocks.

What a load of cod's wallop. I've jump started my bike many times, usually from a booster pack, and never had any problems. Also helps prevent sprag clutch damage if the battery is weak from standing too long. The supply is 12 Volts whether one battery, or two in parallel, so what's going to cause the damage?

Tell me this, basically as long as uv a well charged battery the sprag clutch shouldn't really b an issue? I had big probs wi a falco I had a few years ago probs for that exact reason! I stick a trickle charge on every 3 r 4 days instead of starting it, obviously wen it's just sitting up going nowhere. Is this ok to do???

Using a trickle-charger isn't an option for me, but if you can, I cannot see why it should cause any issues; it's just keeping your battery topped-up whilst the ignition is off.

Its been a few days since posting. Have you found your issue? Sounds like a dead cell in your battery. My bike wouldn't start with 11.7 volts. Load test your battery.

Have you cheked wiring that comes from dash, mine had same kind of problems and solution was a loose connector. Remove fairing panel from clutch side, one wich is fitted in headlight with one screw, under that there are connectors you shoul check.
