Pah! Don't listen to people telling you "190's are for show", I went from a 180/55 to a 190/55 yesterday and all of the cornering issues I had vanished.

Full lean was not a problem and I had awesome confidence.

Ok, it was harder work than a 180 but well worth it.

I'm going to post pictures later- but 190 GP Racer is THE Daddy!!!!

if they cost the same as 180's i would go for 190/55, but last price i got was £300 for a pair of sc pro's, how did you find them harder work?

I buy my tyres from FWR in Kennington- I think a pair of GP Racers are about £209, and it's £7.50 a wheel for ride in-ride out fitting, or £5 postage anywhere in the country... Or free if the order is over £150. Can't knock that.

I bought just a rear at £130, the guy charged £135 but threw in a t-shirt and a few stickers as he knew the bike would be running at a track day. I don't think GP Racers are quite as good as Supercorsa's, but they're damn close...

Found the bike slightly hader to flick from left to right, Clark Curve is knee down left and then straight into knee down right. I felt I had to physically 'lift' the bike, but then I guess the Aprilia is a fat old thing anyway...

yeh, a think the ape's bit harder to move than the jap's in them type of bends haha, but for me now its more about fun than lap times.

Eh? Am I mis-reading that or did you pay the guy an extra fiver to advertise his business for him:dunno

Sorry, made more sense in my brain than it did reading...

£130 tyre, plus £5 postage... As it's free postage over £150 and it was borderline at £130 he said he'd throw in a t-shirt.

Sure, he's advertising his business if I wear the tee, but at those prices he deserves free advertising! £7.50 a wheel for ride-in fitting is excellent. The local monkey's want £20 per wheel...

ah... i think thats the boss... Bob is the young lad who races for them... good lad... bit of a nutter on the road too... lol !! :biggrin

Ive just fitted the 190/55 Bt 016 to the rear of my Mille,& the tyre is 20mm bigger in diameter than a 180/55 ,so has raised the rear for quicker steering, not sure how it made yours harder work?,only the profile & the extra rotating mass might do it

Exactly that, Vince.

If you look at the width of the tyre (190mm) but actually measured across it as though it was part of the circumference the distancethe tyre travels from full lean to full lean increases. That's my theory, anyway. I just know it was blimmin' hard work!

And yes, it is heavier! I carried it over my shoulder through Central London on a very humid Tuesday evening.

The extra grip and better footprint is well worth it. Now if only I had lighter wheels to offset the tyre....

The bike would have steered quicker if you never touched the set up, so should have been easier to turn in due to raising the rear ride height

should the size be 190/50/17 not 190/55/17 poss why the tyre is taller bigger profile

i ride super corsas front and rear 190/55 and its unbelievably reasurring in the twisty's:doug and there is no chicken strip left, and im not the hardest rider in the pack, and still cannot get my knee down, i know its been asked a thousand times before, but what all round tyre is best without compromising the handling sorry for the hijack:thumbup

I just run what I take off my track bike. At the min it's a 180/55, if I fit a 190/55 it will be that next lol

190/50 are a waste of space, 190/55 are definately best tyre choice, gp style lean angles ftw.

Yes, rear ride height has increased, but not by an awful lot. 55% of 180 is 99mm, 55% of 190 is 104.5mm.

I found that 5.5mm generally lost in translation to be honest; it's all very subjective. The bike felt harder work but perhaps I was having an off day?

I know the general concensus is that 190's don't turn as quickly as 180's (my racer chums still use 180's on their 1000cc ilf's) and it did feel a touch lardy.

Still no matter....

Thats because it is a Dunlop:thumbup

I'm running 180/55ZR17 at the moment and have just invested in some tyre warmers. There is very little clearance between the tyre and the chain and swing arm. I have also just bought some scrubs, supercorsa pro, on a 190/55ZR17, and was wondering if there are any issues with it fitting, and also fitting my tyre warmers??
