Gearbox explosion

Paul D, thanks buddy. I don't know if anyone has tried to contact Aprilia UK before ...... Fookin nightmare.....now it's a European number ?? I called approximately 35 times ....alway busy .....go figure that !!! You get cut off after 2 mins 15 sec !!! Went onto their Web site to email them entered all info and a complete run though of the problem scrolled down to send .......on ****** send button aaggghhh start again tomorrow, I'll look into the EU directive side if this ....many thanks fir all your help and comments guys

Keep us up to date on how Aprilia treat this Barty, lets hope they spread a bit of loyalty to their customers!

Good luck with this Barty!
Perhaps we should get a group petition going and send to Piaggio group will probably have zero effect but it might help someone understand that they will never be a sort after brand if this is how they treat their customers

Hopefully they will do a good will repair for him,but a lot try to wriggle out of things they don't think about repeat sales etc, someone up the road from me has a BMW S1000rr with a blown exhaust valve, wrecked the engine,he got it second hand 7000miles full BMW history and they told him if he was the 1st owner they would replace the engine but as he bought it private £7500 to repair, not on really is it and it's sat in his shed now in bits :no

Went up to see Griff today at AP ....took some photos of my gearbox ....it's not pretty way worse than I'd thought uploadfromtaptalk1433367554114.jpguploadfromtaptalk1433367585600.jpg

Christ - what a mess!! Hope Piagio sort you out mate, though I suspect you may need to get the legal profession involved.

Yeah I think your right buddy ....calling Garage tomorrow, called Aprilia last week ...they haven't got back to me yet !!

Holy **** Ian[emoji15]
Mine was nowhere near that bad.

You were lucky it didn't throw you off [emoji106]

Barty67, did you have the 'unable to get neutral/crunching into 1st' problem previous to the gearbox failure? Just asking, as I have had that since new! Done over 13000, so was wondering if it's due to eat is gearbox around now?

'kin hell Barty that is proper fooked!

You were really lucky mate, if the consequences of that happening at 60mph don't justify a recall I have no idea what does!

Barty, No harm in putting pressure on Aprilia/Piaggio Europe, but UK Sale of Goods Act and EU Warranty Directive implementation in UK pertain to the company who sold you the bike. Once you get the lowdown, and std letter template (etc) from UK Trading Standards, you need to present your concerns in writing to the seller, and include Aprilia/Piagio Europe if need be.

If Aprilia/Piaggio group have any interest in customer service (which sounds unlikely based on general forum feedback), they should be reading forums like this! Wouldn't hurt to let them know in passing this is being discussed... assuming you can even get hold of them! It's all about raising the profile and stakes...

Looking at the damage and showed it someone else who knows his stuff and he's saying its selected two gears at once hence the two pairs stripped cogs,he also said you would have no warning either till that last time you flicked the gear lever :no

Guys so sorry for the tardy response I'll answer your question in turn ....just want to say thanks very much for all your help and advice on this ....right :
Heppy, nope I have never had any problems with the gears at all before this, what year is yours ?
Fugly, I completely agree, I am really concerned that this will happen to somebody else with a different outcome .....30 secs before I was over 100+ .....I will be putting pressure on Aprilia to look into a recall.
Paul D thanks for your advice, if you haven't experienced Aprilia customer service. ...it's a peach !!! No more Aprilia UK straight through to Italy with no fluent English speakers and my Italian is limited to "ciao" or "tuono" .....Italian for thunder !!! .
I want to get all the legal side clear in my head before I contact ....again the dealership, I'll do this tomorrow.
Blade, thanks mate, that's really useful I didn't know that or how/why it happened. Your friend is right it was a massive shock when it happened. ..... I was very lucky, I was 1. Slowing down 2. Upright when the rear locked up.
I'll update everyone as soon as I have anything from Aprilia. ..... just want my bike back ....summers coming ride safe everyone ✊

I wouldn't go scaremongering too much, stuff happens, nothing is infallible even the best can go wrong,it won't put me off my tuono I love it,perhaps the previous owner was the cause you never know,I personally think over use of the quick shifter can be a cause,my mates GSXR1000 ate its selectors and burnt two gears,I fixed that for him, still cost £650 for the parts two selectors and two dog gears and would be the same as the tuono if you replaced all of it,mind his bike was 7 years old and had covered 18000 miles,I think Aprilla should repair this or supply the parts as good will at least, but as with everything modern it's all very clever but costs a fortune to fix and this applies to any other modern bike car or what ever, hopefully Barty will get sorted out,if not perhaps we can raise a bit towards his bill, just a thought :thumbup
