Aha! My latest purchase - ultraslim ballasts for HID lights. I am going to fit tonight. Pity is they only come in packs of two, so thinking of having dip as HID, and one of the beams. Maybe one day I'll do the other beam but even with slim ballasts they take up a bit of room under the cowl so we'll see if the first two fit before getting another!

I like that they only suck 35 in stead of 55W but give out 3X the POWER.

Apparrently you can sit in neutral, flick on the beams, and have the light push you backwards.

:worthless

Sounds good. Dip your headlights instead of wearing out your brake pads eh?

He he.

I'll throw up some pics when I have them mounted.

There are interesting stories about LED "bulbs" that are almost as good as HID these days. The new Audi V8 has them. Maybe in a couple of years we can just swap out the H7 halogens for LED's and wallow in the happiness of our alternators...

I would love for someone to put together a step by stet pictorial with instructions for us wrenching challenged, want to be mechanics.

Hint, hint, wink, wink.

Arrite.

1) unplug H7 bulb
2) plug in HID "burner"
3) cut hole in rubber cap and pull wires through
4) plus said wires into ballast, and on inner side, other wires (spade connectors) into original headlamp socket (polarity important)

um

done.

Actually, you will want to fit the ballast somewhere so it doesn't flap around. I bought the ultrathin ones (more expensive, but should fit both under the hood).

went for a 3 hr night ride few days ago and only had the dip bulb in. tried my beams once, didn't use them again. No-one flashed me, so my setup is ok, but the spill from the dip was stronger than my beams!! And the colour - wow! it was a full moon, and my light (6000k) was same colour and blended so nicely:yes

I will definitely fit the other burner for one of my beams, and have just ordered a H7 LED for the other beam, just to have a light in there. There is no way I can fit three ballasts under the hood, and I'm sure one beam will be fine after my experience with the dip being so good. I'll go out and take pics when I get a chance...

It be a motorcycle not a ship. Yaarrhhhhh:lol

Oh hell yes!

New tyre on the next day (even on a saturday, had to go to one dealer to buy the tyre, ride across town (with spare tyre around tummy, yes, ironic I know:lol) to another dealer to get it fitted. Took it off and I could almost stick my finger through the rubber it was sooo thin:eek

That tyre made me laugh. Went to Brands for Bsb a bit a go and attempted to show off my new cycle to an admiring kid. He gave it the big thumbs up, rev it gesture. I thought I'd do better than that. We was on the camping field so I thought I'd give him a bit of a burn out. Dually did and this kid started pissing his keks. Any how when I stopped I looked around and my mate was sat directly behind me on his 2 day old Gixer 750 absolutely caked in ****. Fookin ace.:lol

aaargh.

The dark can be your friend. I got back and found (to my amusement) that the wee flat spot I had been trying to round off was actually getting a tad thin...

Anyway, that is another story. :crazy I am still alive. quote]

The dark can also harbour unknowns. I have to admit that after a lengthy stay in hospital, I don't ride as briskly at night, and I keep a wary eye out for deer. Reduced mobility, 24 screws, two plates, two pins, and a handful of wire holding the elbow together are a result of night riding. And GAWDAMMIT!! I LOVE NIGHT RIDING!!!! ******* deer messing with my favourite riding time...

Sooo, if I had the HIDs to light up the night a little farther ahead I could start hooing in the moonlight again...

So where the f*** am I going to hide the ballast tubes on Gen II??

Le Photos

Okey dokey.

Finally got my arse into gear and took a couple of shots of what the new headlight config looks like.

Now, the two HID burners are located one on dip, and the other on the R side beam (as if you are riding). The other beam is now an LED (checkitout) which is really only a space filler but same colour as the HID (draws less than 5W). I am thinking I will now...

1) wire a wee jumper so the dip is on full time (should give good projeciton and close wide coverage)
2) maybe wire the LED to the dip, so that only the HID beam turns on and off for high. Still mulling that one. Would give a kind of BMW strange asymmetric look for most of the time. More light at the front is safer (IMHO). LED is not bright enough to cause pissed off drivers, but you never know at night it might be.

Anyway, off to scrub in the new tyres (have replaced the conti race attacks for some sport attacks, interesting to see if they differ much).
