Hi
Just brought a 03 red touno with 6890 miles on the clock. I noticed there was some oil spatter in the area of the rear suspension and front sprocket. I have taken the plastic cover which covers the sprocket however although there was a lot of gunk no apparent leaks, but I did find that breather pipe which I think is the oil tank breather was resting on top of the cover and against. So I am assuming that has the oil expands as it gets hot the small amount of oil is coming out of the breather pipe and onto the chain and suspension.
My question is; Is it normal. Is this a from of chain lubrication?? Or should I be worried.
I have now moved the pipe so its not rubbing on the chain resting on a screw housing above the chain?

Aprt from that everything is peachy

Any help is appreciated

Has it got an Renegade type of airbox ???

As far as I am aware it is a stock bike with no mods so if it has I wouldn't know if you smacked me across the head with one:dunno

Lift the tank and see if the airbox has gone and their is a flat plate and a visible filter. The engine breather usually goes in to the airbox and when they are removed for an aftermarket type like Renegade they often route the breather on to the chain to lube it with any oily fumes blown out.

Maybe a picture of said offending part might help yon Nobn and batfastard who seem to know what they're talking about.

Cheers mate
Erm how much oil or not should there be on the chain can can it be reversed. I also have a problem where at times the bike will jump or jerk along at low speeds at times could it related??
cheers

Simmo min...dinnae want tae soond rude..but are you sure you should be oot loose oan the road...some basic stuff here.

Tuonos are very "lumpy" at low speeds due to bein V twins but maistly due tae haein **** fuelin at the low revs. Means yer typically up and doon tae first gear hoppin back n forth tae 2nd etc.

I think a 15 42 sprockets set and map 2 stops this jerking at low speed
Keep the chain lubed as it will save on wear .
I use chainsaw oil on the chain every 2 petrol tank fills

probably Hec got a job lot cheap like at a carboot sale...

No
not rude at all you've all got more Tuono miles than me. I have never had this sort of bike before so I'm a bit new to how it works etc. Dont get me wrong I'm mechanicaly minded if you dont ask questions no matter how basic then you dont learn??So if you willing to part with the knowledge I'll keep asking.

I'd say the same Rico, but I've ridden Bay and Windy's Tuoldos and they are smooth as butter at low revs (pretty much IL4 smooth), so not sure why mine is lumpy around 3000rpm. Has yours changed at all since you fitted the Mivv GPs?

aye its deafenin me!

Seriously tho..ah huv always found it a clunky bugger below 3K-3.5K revs, only smooths oot 4K up... not a big deal...mah RSV was much the same...

..ah kin well mind pickin the T up from the dealer the first time an haein tae deal wi rush hour traffic tae get oot the toon an thinkin whit a pain in the erse this bike wiz an had ah made the richt decision but once oot oan the open road its only took a couple o miles tae get it an it wiz defo the richt thing!!!

Baffles still oot the GPs by the way..decided tae jist start wearin earplugs cos a luv the rip they mak too much..:yes

Mines actually been a bit more snatchy at low revs since I had it serviced and the pots balanced.

Having said that I followed Duke through solid traffic last week and the guy was really struggling ... the jerks, rattles and general noise was quite worrying. The clutch I believe? but wtf do I know.

Not sure why mine is smoothe. Unless the previous owner bas done something to it. Looking at it though everything seems pretty standard apart from the exhaust I've put on. Will be changing it to a 15 42 sprocket set up after the summer. I don't think it's on that at the mo but haven't checked the front sprocket

Saying that I've not checked rear sprocket but the front end doesn't feel at all flighty on mine one bit

Is this it? It looks like the top of box has been taken off?

Should I go back to original air box

No mate leave that on. Thats a Renegade with what looks like a Itg filter, or maybe a PiperX. Try and re'route the breather a bit better so its more directly on the chain on front sprocket. Or you could route the pipe up through the plate and put a small filter on so any fumes get taken in again along with clean air. Thats what most do.
This is one I put on when I made a plate for the Fuono

I just put it there because thats where the pipe reached, ideally it would be in front of the big filter.

Thats blinding mate
I think I would like to re route the pipe because it's resting just above the chain but its leaving a oil spatter all over the suspension. What sort of filter do you reccommend. I know halfords sell them. I had a similar sort of set going on with my last bike(zrx1100). That large filter looks and feels minging whats the score with cleaning or is it a bin it and buy a new one?
Cheers
Simmo
