You lucky bugger Rob.. glad ur havin fun on the BIG T we all love it.. welcome Towie

Hi all from a Yorkshire lad.

Seems like just the forum I am looking for and hopefully will be able to contribute to. I currently have a Honda CBF1000 which I bought recently after deciding to let my head rule my heart for a change, moving on from out and out sports bikes. Looking for comfort with quality build with excellent road holding and reasonable performance [ no longer insane].:biggrin. The Honda is a nice bike but having had it for a short time its shortcomings are becoming obvious and lacking my needs really. I have yet to put my leg over the Tuono but it seems to fit the bill. Can you guys advise as to whether it will be what I am looking for, also the maintenance costs [not like a Ducati I had, I hope]:eek. I simply want a bike that I can ride for many miles comfortably, have enough power when I feel it is safe to have a wee blast, great road holding, excellent corrosion free build quality, and owner maintenance friendly. Am I looking for a bike that doesn't exist??. All contributions gratefully accepted.:thumbup

Regards to you all

John

Hello Johnboy, you will only find big T enthusiasts here.
Comfort yes all day rides welcome!
Build quality yes except you have to sort rear brake.
Costs here in OZ fair but the UK i dont know.
Road holding is exceptional!
Power delivery above 5ooo exceptional
Corrosion well i live on the beach and have no probs but am a clean freak.
Plus you have Italian style, some dressing up to do with aftermarket goodies, touring capabilities and out and out speed machine ride it between 6000 & 11500 rpm and you wont want to get off...... no regrets from moving from my Blackbird to the THUNDER wish i had done it years ago...
Cheers Towie

Many thanks for that Towie, had a sit on a '07 Factory today, didn't have my licence with me so no ride. What about every day use, town work etc, under the 5000 that you mentioned?. What did strike me was the very strong clutch which could be a problem for my 'not so young' wrist, Ducati clutches are similar, I believe that some Ducati owners fit weaker clutch springs or remove every other one to make it more useable, this apparently doesn't compromise the efficiency of the clutch. Any comments guys. The quality of this bike is well up on my Honda, so is the price of course.

I have no probs with the clutch JB. It's firm but it doesn't take a circus strongman to use it.

The T's engine is tractable from about 3 grand, and pulls like a train from 6000 through to redline. Plus it has the sweetest chassis on the market, and awesome brakes. The semi-upright seating position makes it a doddle around town, and I'm comfy up to around 180kmh in the windblast; from there it's hang on Nelly. I can ride it all day at 130-150kmh in complete comfort.

The major trouble Tuono owners have is keeping the front wheel on the deck, and their licenses intact.

Johnyboy, I bought the CB1000 in the 90's when it first came out and kept it for eight years, when sold it still looked like new.A TL1000S followed that along with the V twin bug. Now in the garage is an 04 tuono. The aprilia finish is nowhere near as good as Honda and it has other quality issues ( Italian wireing etc) , would I swap it for another CB1000 not on yer nelly. Honda build the best quality motorcycles period , but if you can forgive the negatives, the T is a ride like you will never forget ( and not an STD in sight LOL)

I agree Doc you cannot get better than honda quality.. & the Italians use guido the master electrician to wire up all bikes, he does this by changing the wire color mid way through, using colors you would not normally see and sticking it where it fits best so as not to tamper with the pure appearance of the master piece.
Practicality is know where to be seen ..... It simply must look good.. & it does

Doc,I have the CBF 1000 came out in '06, detuned Fireblade motor, don't know how it compares with your old CB. I was referring mainly to the chassis, suspension brakes and the like. The CBF has steering and suspension issues. Best 'distance rideable' bike I have had to date. test rides don't show the whole picture do they.
Cheers

Hello fellow Tuonists..

Hi,
My name is Graham, and I just bought a 2007 TuonoR off my friend, and to be totally honest? This bike has completely wrecked me for all other bikes.
I was holding out to buy a Ducati 996 this season but once I got on this Tuono, I thought to hell with Ducati!!!!

Has anyone switched the highrise handlebars for clipons??
I know this is going to affect low speed handling, but who's going low speed on these bikes really.

I'm also looking for a free downloadable manual to help me understand this bike a little more. and to find out how to use the computer to the fullest.

any help would be great!

can't wait till next season.

Graham

Low flying kiwi on Tuono Racing

G'Day there forumites.

Have been lurking a while but never got round to posting. I bought a 2003 Tuono Racing a few months to go with my 2003 Mille R (nice matched pair!) that I've had for 4 years now. Just fitted the Mivv GP can (carbon) with the dB killer removed (safety in noise!).

The Tuono's fantastic, why did it take me so long???

Just back from 8 years in Australia (and a cumulative 3500 laps on track days on the Mille at Phillip Island over that period). Kiwi roads a dream to ride compared to those in Oz, but nothing compares to the Island.

Morning all, i`m paul

Just found a link to your site on ebay and as i`m about to buy my first tuono i thought i`d better join. I`ve been away from road riding for 5 yrs now but still go out green laning now and then. Looking forward to going to the bike show and seeing the aprilia stand, trying out the tuono and buying new gear as i`ve filled out a bit!. Bugger kids are up now so will have to go, bye for now

paul

if you are buying a new bike then the build quality/finish isnt a problem if you look after it. i owned a blade once that had been abused by previous owners. that "legendary honda build quality" thing meant absolutely nothing. it was without a doubt one of the worst bikes ive ever owned. i have had a load of suzukis and people tell me that they are made from cheese but they lasted much better than the blade.

my 2007 factory has been getting used every day recently. i live in south wales and it rains a bit here. i am having no problems and the 2003 millie i had was utterly reliable and looked really good for a 5 year old bike with 11000 miles on it (honestly in a different league to the blade).

if you look after them they will last

Hi, just a quick hello to you all, got a 07 stealth black T with black 08 wheels, R&Gs, akras, map 2, 15x42 gearing. What a bike, best i've ever had beats those soul less jap 4's by miles, I could go on better keep my first post short.

G'day and welcome to the Zone RCEE :cheers

Black IS the fastes colour, but some others (who shall remain nameless - Towie and Deyago, you know who you are) will try to tell you that red is the faster colour. Bahahahaha:kicknuts

Its true RCEE someone ripped you off on that black one, or did they tell you it was slower?........mmmmm black is bad though & i love those black chequered beauties & my next one will be black...
Welcome to the Zone and yeh i ride with a bunch of those ordinary jap plastic thingies apart from being built to go fast they are *****....
Cheers Towie

OMG!!!!

Towie is turning to the dark (read "Black") side. I don't believe it.

I told you RCEE, that black is best - even a die hard red Tuono owner thinks so.:lol

Yeh Yeh black is bad & all that, it perfectly fits the T's profile as being a rogue out on the street.....Lots of noise from the big twin, heaps of road presence especially in the hills and standing at the lights waiting to unleash the throttle...
Note i did not mention that the black was faster just IMO black is nastier & i wont one

Hi guys, Just viewing from RSV Zone, some good threads on here. I ride a Mille so am somewhat of a black sheep. :eek
