Hi Everyone, Ive just joined this site as I have been trying to start my 2002 RSV mille after a year long lay up, the battery was obviously flat so I have charged that and spun the bike over on a jump start, I have put fresh fuel in the tank and although the bike spins over fast with no choke and a bit slower with some choke I cant get it to fire even a little, its as if it is immobilised, the bike does have a data tool alarm which is arming/disarming itself via the key fob but it is a dead as a door nail without a hint of catching I am used to my old Gixer needing some persuasion after a lay up but this is just dead and I dont know what to try first, any suggestions welcome??

forgot to add after spinning it over for ages the exhaust does smell slightly of petrol so I am assuming fuel is getting through, I'm old school so im used to carbs etc but I'm assuming this bike has some sort of fuel injection? thinking about putting some easy start down its neck to see if I can get it to fire and prove a spark, also what is the small round push button under the right hand side of the fuel tank for?

Does the fuel pump prime?? Yes?

Right ...jump leads on spin her over with no choke but hold the throttle open fully ..when it catches....throttle back to 1500/2000rpm

If fuel getting thro it'll be worth having a look at the air filter make sure its clean
Fuel /air mixture kinda crucial so blocked filter lack of air = no combustion

Going to give it another go today Ive been reading up on forums and I forgot that the fuel pump is in the tank, as I said before there's not a hint of the Bike firing so I have to assume no spark or no fuel, Ive read a few posts about the fuel pump relay can anyone tell me where it is?

I think I'm getting there when I turn the ignition on I can hear a click from the ecu but nothing else, is the fuel pump relay the one next to the starter motor solenoid?

Thanks for the advice guys iin true Aprilia fashion the bike is now running, I haven't a clue what I did I couldn't find a 4 way white connector under the seat only the starter relay the bank angle cut out and the fuse carrier but after checking all the above I gave it another spin and it burst into life immediately so I can only guess that there were contacts in a relay somewhere that where not making and by fiddling around i have sorted it, I had a Gixer 1100 slabside for years before this bike and although I love it its not the road bike my Gixer was, until the next electrical issue :doug

Didnt have to wait long after running on idle for around 10 mins it cut out and now once again refuses to fire, definatley electrical I am now going to remove the tank and check all the connections on the fuel pump, if anyone has a picture of the fuel pump relay I would appretiate it as I cant find it?

looking at the battery connections there is a negative terminal on a small ring connection coloured yellow along with two other small gauge cables coloured brown and white which dont seem to be terminated at the negative post of the battery, does anyone have a wiring diagram or know what these cables are for?

Right I am starting to lose sleep over this one, after 2 days of fiddling I believe I have eliminated any electrical issues, new battery, fuel pump primes before and after spinning over and I have a spark, as I posted yesterday out of the blue it fired and ran normally for around 10 minutes and then nothing again, I started to suspect fuel being an issue despite hearing the fuel pump cut in, I have found this after noon that when I undo the fuel pump delivery banjo on the intake I am getting a gravity fuel supply but when I block the banjo with my fingers and turn the ignition on I feel no noticeable difference in fuel delivery pressure and to make it even more infuriating when I reconnect the fuel delivery line and spin her over the bike will fire on the first stroke and then nothing, I am about to open up the tank and see if there are any obvious faults with the fuel pump, if anyone knows of any checks that I can do or known issues with the fuel pump I would appreciate it, if all else fails can anyone recommend a garage in the Romford Essex area because I am fast losing patience.

View attachment 6864problem found, removed the tank and the fuel pump unit to find the fuel filter had become disatached from the fuel pump, god knows why this would happen why the bike has been layed up but I replaced the standard crimp connection with a jubilee clip, reassembled and the bike fired up first time and the problem seems solved, she now fires up fist time every time and runs without fault, I might dive back in and replace the filter but for know I am just relieved to have sorted it :)
