Hey guys,

So my '02 Mille HATES starting while she's cold. Whatever it is, the cold is affecting it. I will crank and crank until I can smell the gasoline (even at full throttle) and nothing. I put her in the sun for 30 minutes and she starts up like absolutely nothing is wrong. What can it be? This has happened several times now and it is literally to the point where I know putting her in the sun is the cure for the symptoms as strange as it may sound.

I've checked the sparks. New battery and a new starter recently installed a few months prior to this happening. No mods done to her. Any ideas??

She must be female and a love the sun. At least you can do that if you were over here you would be stuffed except for 8 weeks in the "summer "

no throttle,cold start lever only?

Have tried just about every combination. Sometimes the wide open throttle doesn't even work. I flood it, put it in the sun, starts up no prob (and burns all that flooded fuel).

Engine oil? Something is warming up... Crappy battery / starter solenoid? Both battery and starter are new. Plugs are fine.

The Air Temp sensor?

Have you tried connecting the two diagnostics and see if there any errors?

This is sounds like the same problem im having. All mods done on mine 2, seems the sprag could be the answer

I had similar problem and it was the starter motor drawing to much current and the earth wires not making a good connection.
I ran a new earth lead from the starter bolt to the frame and have no problems now.

No error codes on diagnostics. Someone told me all of the terminal connections aren't soldered on these older bikes and corrosion can build up on them so I've gone through and soldered all of them.

Also, here's a pic of the starter I have.

Just an update but I ended up soldering most of the connections once I heard this solved a lot of problems for the old Milles. I did notice my starter's connection was hardly even inside the pin. Since I've done this she's started right up.
