Since all of you seem to be the British types, you need to say that sentence above with is from a Canadian trying to do an English accent.

I just came across the site this morning so a hearty 'good morning' from Vancouver, BC followed by a "please help me, I'm at my wit's end, I have no idea where to go"!:bawling

I come to you looking for help on with a problem on my 2007 TuonoR with 27000km.

I've owned the bike since new and have few problems with it. However now I've been jammed with no bike since September and am completely lost. I tried the AF1 forum but there has been not much help in solving it.:banghead

First of all, my generator pooched itself. I picked up an aftermarket unit from Rick's Stators and installed it. Once that was in, the line voltage I was getting at the Regulator/Rectifier was 105 VAC at 4000 RPM. Additionally the surface temp of the RR was very hot to the touch. I contacted Rick's Stators and they said that the voltage was fine due to it being a "Y" wind vs a "Delta" wind and the diodes and SCR's of the RR would prevent damage to it. At this point battery voltage was 14.1-14.3 volts. Then it dropped to 12 v and continued a slow decline as the battery drained. At this point the engine would then "bang" to a halt. It sounded as if it had decided to fire a cylinder on the wrong stroke.

I found a used Honda RR that I was told was good and installed it. The bike ran in a similar manner including the "banging" to a stop. After 5-6 tries the dash lit up with an icon that said ECU and had a picture of an electrical plug and socket disconnected from each other. Now when hitting the start button nothing happens, no click no engine cranking, zip.

The main 30 amp fuses under the seat are fine ..... good connections and no corrosion. The white connector under the right side seat cowl which the 30 amp fuse goes to is also fine. The fuel injector relays under the left hand side seat cowl have been swapped out with the high beam relays with no difference.

The bike has been off and on a Battery Tender (similar to an Optimate) all winter. I try to switch it back and forth between my bike and my wife's. It had been off for 2 weeks when I plugged it back in today. Surprisingly, no ECU unplugged icon. It cranked, fired and "banged" to a stop. Twice. Now it's back to where it was, not cranking.

Any tips are welcome.

Yer nae the lone Canadian oan here as theres a certain leather chaps wearin chappie frae Edmontin aye post whorin on here all the time. Ahm sure ye will hear frae him at some point, capital fellow he is!

Am nae good wi electricals, mair a handy spanner man but thirs some excellent big T brains oan here ahm sure will be able tae help.

first stop check your battery voltage when starter button is pressed
if its too low it wont do anything
then check the resistance on your new stator and check for no continuity to ground
and just a warning i had an 04 rsv in the other week with a pattern stator on it and it didnt like it at all(lotsa wierd things happenin with it)
better to get your original one rewound
 
To clarify, there is no grrr rrrr rrrr at all when hitting the starter. I hear the fuel pump prime when I turn the key to 'on' but no action at all when the starter button is pressed. At least there wasn't until this morning when it turned over and fired a couple of times. But now it's back to being dead.

I'll double check the continuity but I believe that it was fine waaay back when I changed it.

Here is the pictogram that shows on the dash (along with the dreaded red triangle) once it goes through it's little song and dance.

Hi y'all. Thats me doing my American accent for all you Canadians over there Sikorsky.
Might have to give you some abuse next time for saying hello to all you Bristish by putting on an English accent. Bear in mind the Scottish, Irish and Welsh accents as well. U'd have been better of sticking to saying British Accent.

I'll try to avoid shitting the bed on such things, but I most likely will again at some point.
 
;) I guess we all speak English eh fella. I live quite near the border to England and have to put up with loads of those English riff raff coming over here as we have the best biking roads in Wales. Some of them seem to be ok though although Aka Gilo, Windy Miller and Evlin are a bit suspect.
 
Welcome to the forum mate.
I'm a bit of a thick **** when it comes to elcetrics, but we do have a few brain boxes on here, so fingers crossed one of them can help you.
 
My advice with regards to the electrics is to find a garage at the bottom of a rather large hill. Freewheel it down to said garage making engine noises (brum brum brum brum) n see what they'll give you part ex for it and ride away on a different bike. Thats my plan anyway if owt goes wrong with mine.
 
Have to agree with charley,....sounds like your stator is cooking the RR and,in turn,the battery is not getting enough charge.If the RR is too hot to touch there is a very good chance that it is burnt out.
 
Hey Sikorsky... Welcome from the other side of the Rockies, which is better than the other side of the pond. At least we can ride across the mountains to say hi. I've a new stator in mine as mine pooched itself at about 25K km. Halfway through last summer with a little more than 35K km on Andiamo (my beloved matte '07) I started having charging issues... or maybe it was a pooched battery. Unfortunately it's been snowing so ******* much that my shed is now virtually inaccessible to pull the auld gal oot and take a look at her to find oot wha' the problem seems tae be. I'll let you know what I find.
That being said. I have racer friends in Van that I saw last August when they got married. Our wedding gift was a trackday on your side of the mountings, so maybe we'll see you this summer. Good luck and keep us posted.
 
Shovelhead ...... I think I had some communication with you several years back, you were talking about running Hwy 16 ( as if there was another choice) to Prince Rupert?

Since it's the original battery, I don't think I'd be far off picking up a new one, however it's this funky ECU unplugged thing that confuses me. When it sparked up yesterday, it was with a low battery since it hadn't been on charge for 2 weeks. That's when I plugged in the Battery Tender. Then it started a second time and stalled again. Then up came the icon pictured above and the absolute zero response when pressing the starter. Sidestand switch not part of the problem.

And Bay, there is an Aprilia shop at the bottom of the hill (16 blocks south) from me. Unfortunately it's all scooters. Although 28 blocks in the other direction they have KTMs .........
 
welcome sickorsky, i would say the bloke i would (and have in the past) be asking for advice, who knows aprilia's inside out is griff at www.apriliaperformance.co.uk tel: 01827 285500 :thumbup he does pop on here so you could try sending him a pm to 'fusebox'. if he cant help i'm told a piece of cloth in the gas tank and a match cures most problems:bawling
 
that display means there is no comunication between the ecu and clocks !
check the 2 connectors to your ecu ,the lock connectors on the l/h side of your throttle bodys under the tank and clock connector block for corrosion or bad connections
but remember if your battery is faulty, the ecu is checking voltage readings from the bikes sensors,and if you dont put the correct voltage in you will never get the correct voltages out .
after that im affraid its down to your local aprilia specialist.
