Motorcycle sat nav recommendations?

This thread is useless without pics!!!! Telferizer one goes through yoke. Is the bolt that I'm guessing is at the bottom of the yoke easy enough to get at, do up???? He asked me to measure depth of yoke and I'm having difficulty getting to the bottom of the yoke to do that!!!!

You lot'll be right royally fooked when they pul the plug on the GPS constellation. (Not too far away, we'll see how Kim Yong Il gets on with his ballistic missile test - amazing how accurately you can place a few kilotons with a GPS transceiver in the warhead - unless of course the Yanks turn it off?)

Map all the time otherwise you just end up slavishly following a piece of tech like the myopic cagers who do their best to knock me off every day. SatNav is the devil's spawn and the antithesis of motorcycling!

Mind you my (Govt supplied) helicopter's got 2 x differential selective availability GPS, 2 x laser ring gyro INS, 2 x Air Data Computers, and a blended EGI, whatever that is and I still get lost, or positionally challenged.

Each to their own.

surely with a map you have to keep on stopping though? I used to get printouts of my route, the turns and road name/ numbers and tape to tank or stick in tank bag pocket. Much more fluid with a gps though, you just need to know how to use it properly

For a Merlin jockey :)puke) why so anti technology????

Got a double blended EGI with 4 way cross check etc etc on my chariot and it is great! i can get really accurately lost and drop stuff on a 10 fig lat/long exact where the troops didn't want it coz they converted from decimals the wrong way! :devious You going to BZN track day??

Got little Teliferiser ram mount in the head (it is an expanding rubber mushroom type so no issue for access). Also toying with a mount plate off the screen bolts.

I use a Garmin NUVI 360 - not a bike one and not water proof but tuck away nicely under MRA double bubble. Don't have any audio and just use it for confirmatory posn (or to get home again after a magical mystery tour!). It was fantastic and took my and the wife around Norway 2 years ago. In fact it was the best and all the BMWs with their all signing all dancing satnavs used to waits at the end of the day for me to ead into town to find the hotel as it had all the one way streets etc (unlike the TomTom that tried to take them straight across Bergen harbour!)

Where to you guys pull the live from on the power supply.:dunno My straight from the battery via a fuse and switch doesn't seem stable and trips the NUVI off line!

stay safe

Anti-technology moi?

Cos I'm fed up with staring at technology at work. My bike's a break from staring at 6 x EIS screens thinking 'why's it doing that?'. Plus the Merlin is now an Italian helicopter and therefore breaks down more time than the average Priller'.

Keep eating the pies.

PS When's BZN Track day? Benson's in mid Aug, always a good one. I'll give you some directions to find Benson if you need them!

the Telferizer mount looks ideal :thumbup

i have tomtom on my n95 that i use in conjunction with interphone bluetooth headset. brilliant. powered by car charger plugged in to accessory lead direct (fused) to battery

I wanted a cheap fix as i did,t see the need for voice directions and already have a Tom Tom 1 so i bought a Ram mount and fixed it under the screen. As its the car version its not waterproof but its been there 6 months in all weather and is protected buy the screen.

Ironically i going to sell it.As i have a friend who's just split up with a ex, that bought him a Tom Tom rider 2 for Christmas ( Brand new ) Touch :biggrin and its coming my way :inlove

Check out the pictures. And its power via a cigarette lighter adaptor wired directly to the battery ( Power as well ) Sorted

Looks really good Craig.

Do you have trouble seeing the screen in sunny conditions?

I dont think one fo them ram mounts will fit on my bike, i might have to get one of those telferizer mounts.

Mmmm the car sat navs looking more tempting, id save a packet! :thumbup

LOL Craigs over 6' so he can't get low enough to see through the screen!!

Mark, I've just ordered one of those £59.99 sat nav (Click Me) specials off Ebuyer, and I made a mount for it that fits across the top of the clocks out of a piece of 14mm copper pipe, painted up and lacquered.

Will do a how to once it arrives and is mounted to my satisfaction.

My my you do have an eye for a bargain Alan :thumbup
At that price who cares if it breaks!

Looks good and has most of the modern features you would expect to find.

Are you going to hard wire it to your bike if so how? Ive seen those cigarette lighter adaptors to hard wire them to a car, is that how ud do it?

Like i said before i cant see mine mounting under the screen because of lack of room, this would mean id have to mount it from the yoke then buy it a little rain mack just in case lol

:biggrin

Apparently you can remove the Turbodog nav software and stick TomTom 7 on it pretty easily. Will be wiring in a waterproof 12v fused power supply that will be sited around the dash area so the unit can be plugged in permanently, seen them on FleaBay for around £5 delivered.

I made my bracket so it's just sited above the clocks in such a way that the clutch and brake reservoirs won't foul it on full left and right locks.

Once I've upgraded the software on it I'll post up some piccies.

Like you say at that price and for a sat nav that will talk to my Cardo Scala BT headset, you can't moan can you?

Can you not fit a double bubble screen to gain more room? (That's what Hooked did, I have his old screen LOL)

Yep, arrived the other day. :doug

Loaded TomTom7 on to a spare SD card I had laying around and yeah, it works really well. Just adding in the speed cameras now with audio warnings along with the visuals. Just off to test it :pirate

Had it on whilst in my car today and it was surprisingly quick to adopt new routes. On a gadget such as this the CPU is usually ***** and cannot cope with the demands of a programme such as TT7 but alas it was excellent.

It doesn't talk to my bluetooth Cardo Scala headset which is a shame but to be honest, it's a back up for when I get really lost and my Cardo Scala is mainly for answering my dog and bone.

The sat nav does have a feature that I really like, it can transmit the sat nav instructions to an FM frequency, so if you had an MP3 player that had an FM radio in it then you could receive the audio instructions via that.

Snazzy gadget or what for £59.99?

If anyone wants to buy one and needs TT7 loading on it then I'm more than happy to either supply you the software and or do it for you. (No cost involved and if your computer savvy takes around 30 minutes)

Sounds greeeeat mate!

Please explain why you chose this one over the others they have, i see they have a few slightly cheaper!

Ive been looking at this one, i like the idea of europe maps too! http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161002
Im not worried about the bluetooth side of it all, its purely for a visual purpose, i dont even own a headset. If i install the TT7 will that give me europe maps?

Im deffo going for a 3.5" rather than the wide screen for obvious purposes.

Looks good, im more keen to get one now than ever!!!

It was the bluetooth and FM capabilities that sold it to me, wanted to be able to play MP3's on my car speakers via the FM transmitter on the sat nav. Although now I find out that you can't play MP3's and have the sat nav running at the same time. :dunno

I went for mine cause I knew it was small and performed quite well with TT7, read the many posts on Here before buying my satnav.

I have TT7 with maps for UK and Western Europe so no probs loading either on to your Ebuyer sat nav bargain.

Just completed modding my speed camera warnings, they sound awesome, I've gotta get out on the bike tomorrow to test it. :devious

A fraction of the cost of a true TomTom and well worth the money IMO.
