Hey guys... Looks like I wont have to wait too long for my new bike.. Im just in the process of ordering some goodies off AF1 site.. Can anyone give me advice on these bits and if I should be changing or getting something else....

Any help would be great...

Ak Evo 6 full exhaust (Ti)
race airbox (the one that makes the tank the airbox)
k&n filter
Aprilia Anti theft
License plate aprilia bolt set and valve covers
Axle/frame sliders
crg gold shorty brake and clutch
AF1 Link plates
aprilia tank and saddle bags

Local dealer doesnt think il need a PCIII and that he can just change the map? Also has anyone got shorty levers? Not sure if its guna make the clutch harder to use..
Had to put up a pic of my exhaust.... God damn its sexy!

I would deffo get the Power Comander, and some dyno time. we found 27% more power between 5 and 6k and a generous 12bhp at the top end.... it drives smother than a cashmere codpiece now.

Nice.. Thanks for that. This may sound stupid (dodging tomatoes..) will these mods if done correctly affect reliability? Have done carb/filter/exhaust mods on previous bikes but this is new to me..:crazy

I had a chat with the dealer before I did these and he said that it shouldn't affect reliability or warrenty.
The reason for the crap fueling is due to our friends in the enviro-mental lobby, they insist that we strangle the engines in an effort to save the planet.. morons... anyway this means that car and bike makers tend to put a big hole in the power curve around the area where the testing for emmisions is done...
So in fact all you are doing is putting the engine map back to where it should be, making optimum power, and optium grins..
You may experience a drop in fuel economy and a tendancy to lift the front end even more than b4....

Hmmmm... I think I can handle that! :thumbup Although I may have to cancel my planned 5 week tour of the South Isld.. Was going to be doing 5000+ km.. That'l be an expensive exercise!

Have you done all those mods?

Yup, i have the Akropawotsits pipes, filter, and power comander.. have a dead sexy torque curve now... and 136 to 142 brake at the rear wheel depending on the ron value of the ole petrol.
As far as MPG goes, i get from 90 miles to the tank when i got fer a ride with me Girlfriend (she has a Fazer 6) but on me own i get about 70miles.... thats cos i ride like i just stole it and am being chased by the plod.

Thats a bloody decent number of shetlands.. (ponies) I guess thats not so bad.. Il probably get something in the middle.. Thanks for ya info..:thumbup

I've got shorty Pazzo levers on mine, but I also have an MPL replacement clutch slave cylinder thats "30% less effort" according to the blurb.

Can't swear to the % but it is easier - and a mate has the Evo clutch slave - slightly stiffer than the MPL.

MPL are German - their Website.

Regards Airbox - you don't need the K&N - an Evo comes with a similar filter, or better get a Renegade airbox a little bit better on power and a really excellent intake noise :)

Screen - look at Ermax - dunno who imports them to the US - I assume you are in the US?

Is the FULL exhaust really worth all the extra cash? The Ape headers are pretty good a set of Akra slip ons would do the job? I reckon the new hex Akras look the mutts nuts, but the cat needs chopping out.

Hope these give you some food for thought.

Hey Paul,
Thanks heaps for your advice! Im over in New Zealand (that island just south of Aussie ;)
Had a look at the different exhausts and there torque/hp curves etc and the full Akra system adds 11hp as opposed to 4-6hp and the curves on the dyno are a whole lot nicer... I'l check out some other cans and systems as $4k NZ$ is a heap of money...

Cheers!

Oberon http://www.oberon-performance.co.uk/acatalog/Aprilia.html do some damn nice billet stuff and in colours too, they are dead helpfull if you have any probs.
found somegood levers too, by Trak tech available from Busters http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/ in the UK.. cheap too! have the adjustable lever thing and come in short or long..
I have the Ermax screen as well, fits good and is top quality... and of course Bewoulf rad covers are worth a look, as a stone damage aint cheap.

aha a Kiwi, where men are men and sheep are nervous? :cheers

Just thinking about the mods on our bikes.

We have Gilles chain adjusters on both - much easier to use than the stock stuff, and very nicely made.

R & G crash bungs on the frame upper and lower - it's these lowers that REALLy do the business in a low - medium speed off, if your really travelling the bike will destroy itself whatever you fit.

We do a bit of European touring on our Tuono's so we also have chain oilers fitted, an electronic system by Pro-oiler (talk to Pablo) but I appreciate many owners don't see the need. FWIW my 05 is still on the original chain with at least 3/4 of the adjustment left, and the bike has done around 12k. I dont know the exact figure because I replaced the speedo when it developed a wee crack in one corner

I have a Power commander fitted, to sort the Evo & Akra's, a custom map can even be tailored to suit what you want. Mine is set up for the best spread of power and to make the bike as smooth as possible rather than absolute peak power. I loses about 3-4hp on what it could peak at, dyno shows 122 at my rear wheel, rather than the ~125 initially. However at 40% & 60% throttle opening it's over 10hp up, so it makes real world riding a lot better. Remember mine is the original V990 engine - 125 at the crank rather than the Evo enngine in the factory - 139bhp.

Tank bag wise we both have Baglux "Design" bags with the tank covers, not the prettiest, but very useable. Rear luggage wise we use the Ventura luggage system with a Spada 50 litre bag. I can vouch for the Spada bags last year 10 of us went through France to the Alps, 6 or 7 using this system, and as we were all riding like idiots, none of these lads had any hassle with luggage. I convinced me I bought sets for both bikes.

Oh and I just remembered - radiator protection - I made up my own, just buy some black grille mesh - I rather like Motocafe's idea with the Ikea bins. Beowulf make kits, stainless or gold - depends what colour you want.

sorry Dood but i have to post this Gif ..for all you Kiwi's .... mind you as a Welshman i think i'm allowed

Oh an some insurance compaines will give you a 5% discount fer having R and G's on.

Nice... Il just get my gumboots and velcro gloves... :lol

Hey do those lower ones get in ya way??

the HOOOOGE lower crash bungs...Hmmm yup to start off with they really really got on my i had the brused shins to prove it, but now i dont really notice them at all.

The lowers are quite useful - you can rest your legs on long journeys, they make a good mounting point for a video camera, and believe me if you drop it they are the ones that save the day.

Rear R & G after a trip across the grass at Cadwell, June 06.

Front crash bung, same off.

As you can see the front folds to absorb the impact - if it didn't it would bollox your frame, the rear one is really solid and hold the bike. the rest of the damage is absorbed by replacement cotton reels and the handlebar ends. TBH the front axle sliders didn't even touch the floor - I have removed them since this crash.

Holy *****! Yeah not that keen on looks but would have been bloody messy and expensive without em! Definately be getting some..

Lesson from the wise, Grasshopper.

Do not yield to the temptation of some posing ****** on a GSXR1000 fully decked out in team Rizzla colours, leathers etc, and attempt to ride around the outside of him on a cold rear tyre on the first left hand corner of the track, even if he rides like a girl. Wait until the end of lap two when your tyres are warm. It is a lot cheaper in the long run :rolleyes

Oh, and don't buy diablo's they aren't all that grippy - Michelin PP 2CT, or Bridgestone BT014/016 seem pretty good.
