Visited a well known bike dealer in Batley wont mention the name but they sponsored Ian Hutchie when he white washed the TT.Anyway i fell in love with an £11000 fireblade only 200 made,TT paint job,signed by Hutchie etc etc,only £11000 and a divorce so i made enquiries.What you exchanging? O3 factory was the reply.How many miles?None as it has reset the clocks its a common fault with the bike was my reply.Condition?Good for the year i answered.MMMM lets see,after a head scratch £2000!! You heard it right.Went home polished Ape started up had alook and listened and though is there really £9000 of difference?Guess what i decided to do,yes ive just saved £9000.I dont have a problem with the dealer far from it as they put lots of cash into proper racing ie the roads and they have been going for years but who the hell Has £11000 to spare without a good px deal.

Even so it's not a very attractive offer they made, £2K is not a lot off a £11K bike. Nice, high spec, 03 gen 1s fetch a lot more than that on the private sale market.

Agreed Rob, but I'll wager you won't get many dealers offering much more for a Gen 1. Hugely undervalued IMHO when compared to Jap thous of the same vintage.
And if the Blade is a limited run Padgetts know there will be another prospective buyer along soon, so from their perspective why should they discount?

Dealers lways the same. When I Px'd my 02 R1 6 years ago for my RSV they gave me £3800. They sell for that now 6 years later. If you can sell privately you make more, and in a better position to haggle. My R1 had a fault on it which would have been an easy repair for a main dealer but expensive for me to pay for it doing hence PX'ing it.

Just did my 2001 RSV with 27k, it came up with £990! That's still better that the £800 that a Ducati dealer offered me against a 1098!!

Yep, a brand new 1098, mind you that was a few months ago before the first Panigales were out so it was still the top Duke. I did take a sharp intake of breath ansd say I would have a think about it!!!
