what do you mean? it starts right up and idles at a smooth 600-800 rpm in sub-zero conditions? that seems impossible. Mine needs the fast idle even in 55F+ weather.

Because it's now running and starting as it should :doug. New starter solenoid and battery?

RSV's start virtually instantly ( within a second or so of the starter being pressed ) hot or cold, if they don't there's are problem.

Just look at the number of post on "my bike won't start" !!

I would still use some cold idle though as Mr Chow states, it will need to idle until warm otherwise it will stall

it'll start on the throttle but will die unless i add 1/3 idle... add full idle & its started flooding again !? :confused

idle lever is working... lol... i aint got a clue... im blaming it on the snow !!

normally when warmer weather it needs full idle... is it down too sensers & maybe thinner air in this weather or something... very very weird... still aint complaining though !! :inlove

It's certainly not flooding as the fast idle lever simply opens the throttle butterfly's to let in more air on cold start.

show off 55F+ weather

definately 100% floods when the cold idle is pulled on... reeks of petrol... perfectly fine with no idle !? :devious

i understand its not technically a choke... so maybe not its fault on its on... but when its on... maybe the TPS or some ECU senser thinks it needs extra fuel & dumps it in & floods it !? :dunno

you say it lets in cold air... so maybe thats why its ok in this cold weather... doesnt need any extra let in & only needs the cold or fast idle thingy when the weather is warmer too compensate !? :confused

there is more oxygen in cold air(denser) dont know if thats the answer to your situation mate

New battery and starter solenoid will be helping no end as it will also be producing a stronger spark when cold thanks to the new stronger battery. All engines are different though, some like little or no choke where others prefer lots. In my opinion if everything is tuned correctly an it starts with very little choke its a good engine ;) :thumbup

I have always gone on the principal that if it starts without choke it is running too rich,
Sandy V2

exactly the same this morning aswell & last night after work covered in snow... no fast idle... weird as i always do the proper start procedure... & it works 99% of the time... but when its really cold it floods straight away... so now im going too try it the opposite way... without fast idle everyday... then if it doesnt like it il use the fast idle !! :thumbup

good point... so adding throttle with the lever floods it !! :thumbup

its always been very thirsty averaging 28mpg... iv got 57mms & Hook box too stick on soon... so that'll will probably bring it down too 23mpg... lol !! :doug
