who's your favourite racer?

B

BIG UN

1.who's your favourite racer or hero/inspiration?
and
2. what got you into bikes in the first place?
my hero has to be david jeffries, watching that big fella blast round the island on the r1 and gsxr was a sight to behold, breaking record after record.he also showed you dont have to be 8stone wet through to ride a bike hard and fast!
proud of foggy too, even tho he's an arrogant s.o.b and joey dunlop of course!
and for me its the TT and my dad that inspired me to ride.always went with my dad when i was a nipper, every year without fail(as well as all the local races like donny/cadwell/silverstone)
me,my dad and my brother all ride,at one point all 3 of us used to go out riding together on our r1's,much to mums anxiety lol.
not so much now as he has glaucoma (?) but me and my brother still get out regular.:thumbup

For me it was split between road racers and motorcross riders, Barry Sheene and Kenny Roberts on the tarmac and Thorpe on the dirt

My dad got me into bikes when i was 5, bought me a motorcross bike and we went racing, did that with him till i was 18, he's always had road bikes so at 16 got a 50 and that was the start for road bikes, he still makes me go out with him from time to time (him on his Pan European :puke) then lectures me that im to stop acting the **** behind him by doing wheelies , he's a great bloke my dad and ill always be greatfull to him for getting me into bikes :thumbup:thumbup

likewise,me too mate.as kids my dad bought me and my brother crossers, trials bikes ect to get us into racing and see what we were good at,mums always worried tho, hoping she never gets that call!
think my dads starting too now, lol.

1, I always liked watching Foggy, and from N.Ireland, the greatest of them all Joey Dunlop. Watched him a few times at the N.West200, any rider who has the balls to race on roads has my utmost respect. And me being Irish does make me a bit biased maybe...

2, there was a guy from my village who had a orange Honda 550 and for me that was the most beautiful bike ever, and from then on I was hooked on bikes :inlove

Gotta admit Barry Sheene has to be my fave racer of all time.
As for who got me into bikes first, well it has to be my dad, he always had bikes and it got me hooked, there are pictures of me at about 5 years old sitting on his bikes and I was always bugging him to take me out on the back, much to my mum's horror!! :D

Sheene, Foggy, Whitham, Dunlop for me:eatcorn Mamola pretty cool too. Oh and doohan was a bit of a ledge.:thumbup

shwantz and rainey knocking 10 bells of crap out of each other was awesome to watch as a kid. Franki Chilli and foggy in the early days of wsb.
Agree with the Dave Thorpe comment and would add Eric Gebours and Rick Johnstone to the list.
Current riders,, Christian Iddon for his shear determination, Bayliss cause I named my dog after him,, big Ellison fan (1 because he lives round the corner from me, and 2 he is one of the nicest guys I`ve met)

Got into mx at 15,, passed my direct access around 6 years ago to ride a enduro bike and then progressd onto the tarmac. Never looked back really. Just need to learn how to ride round right handers without papping myself thinking it`s gonna fall over!:pirate

jamie whithams the boy,he's so cool and down to earth, loved his superbike school when it was on.he tells it like it is,best commentator too on bsb.hate that keith huewen and julian wats is name that do the tt commentry, theyre proper diks!

it was barry sheene kenny roberts.when i was at school but seeing bikes on tv was rare until satalite came then i watched luca cadolora, dohan ,greville, now like nori ,vale ,bayliss, also guy martin round olivers mount, the racing is so close there on one corner you could lean over the fence and tap them on the head as they go past, nobody mentioned hissy, bloody hell there all gods ,slight, whitam, edwards, george formby.he he he

Its gotta be foggy, shane byrne, troy corser, frankie chilli, and troy bayliss. reasons for getting into bikes is that seeing the likes of the guys mentioned above and thinking " i can do that ! ", but still not got so much as walked on a track yet!:biggrin

ooo yes, forgot good old nori haga, followed him since his days on the old R7 in wsb.
pmsl @ george formby.lol

Got to be David Jefferies R.I.P for me, lived local to me and always had time to stop for a chat. A big man with a big heart and a legend at the TT.

HERE HERE MATE,what a rider, and a gentle giant to boot.
greatly missed.are you near his dads bmw dealership?

Sure I will get flamed but have always been a fan of Sean Emmett - from his days as a journo with Fast Bikes, through BSB, GP 500 and now in the R1 Cup.

Never rated Foggy, thought he was gifted but an arrogant ****.

i know someone who is selling emmets race leathers mainly black got ducati on th chest but have to look close to see it.its got all sponsers badges ect said he would part with them for £150 quite good condition ,oh yeah big letters on the speed hump emmet in chrome looking silver

i remember rob frost/shakey burns/gary mason from fastbikes mag and video days lol.good to see shakey making a name for himself.still got there videos with em blasting through france and riding like total loons lmao.

just thought about what rutter said at macau, plater must have wanted more than me because there was bits of his helmet hitting me as he scraped it on the metal arm co ,would have loved to have seen jeffries at olivers mount the jump in the woods is named after him they hit it at 140 awsome,
