Eveing all, looking for advice on the following dilemma:

I'm looking at getting an RSV for commuting / weekend fun, I do 100miles a day on twisty a roads, I'm on a tight budget for initial outlay (running xosts ok though) and have seen a 2000 mille r with a cat D/C not sure which recorded and 12,000 miles for £2195 or a 1999 rsv with 25,000 miles for £1800, as I'm doing 25000 miles a year 'ish the higher mileage bike is going to be pushing 75k after 2 years as opposed to 62k .. would you go near a cat d or C bike ? :dunno

Thanks in advance :thumbup

The old ones are good ones matey, but you need to do your history homework on the bike. eg Maintenance schedules if available and of course general condition of the bike.
What mods. may have been done to it, when was its last service & what was done etc blah blah...there is good ones out there, but prior owners have alot to do with how the bike is now. Personally i'd lean towards the 99, but of course that would depend on the condition of the 2K over the 99. Best of luck with your decision mate, and your final purchase. RSVz are a great bike, they have a few niggly problems that you can certainly find in posts on this forum with a quick search, but can be remedied with ease in general.. i don't think you will be disappointed in the end with yer Ape bud!
Cheers, Aus

I've just brought the 99 one and comute only 30 miles a day when I can steal the wifes car :)
I've found so far its just the sensors playing up. the bike rides great, looks good and handles brill in the crappy weather.
as for miles, well mine has 24500 on it now. thinking about selling it next year before the miles get to scary and buy another lower miles bike. im not bothered about the miles on the bike as long as its been looked after. mine has fsh and is in good condition. its only for reselling. normally I need to sell my bike to buy another.

Cat c and d are not a problem in my eyes as long as the bike has been put back together buy someone who knows what is what and not joe bloggs down the road!

in two years time, yes the 99 bike would have more miles recorded but with you the high miles and c/d recorded on the other, selling would be an issue. maybe convert to track bike :)

Get the 99 :)

:devious:Hello my brothern.i traded my 99 in for my 07 and it had all the mods I called it the rat bike.it ran awesome it was my track bike too.only 1300 miles on it cannnot go wrong with it mate.i have an 02 milie and it has 2500 miles on it and runs like a champ.any one you getwill be a good choice just try and get as much info on it you can.good luck:thumbup

thanks for the replies eveyone, in my sleepy state last night i meant to say the 2000 bike is the rsv R :banghead the 99 is is just rsv

Look around matey, and I bet after the new year bikes will have dropped in price. Anyways if the budget stretches always go for the R its got all the goodies which means when you've had it a while you won't start looking around for ohlins suspension etc :devious. CAT C/D is panel damage.

:thumbupPaid £2000 FOR MY 2001 r MODEL, very good bike apart from starting, maybe my battery is on its way out or its normal twin thing.
Its my first twin always had fours as my bike is my transport but now local job can push bike to work, wonted more fun.Starting to like it now,but if i was still doing 60 miles day to work to be honest i would not of sold my honda blackbird.

I wouldn't buy a cat d/c write off unless it was seriously cheap and even then only for a track bike. It's a buyers market out there. Get the newest and lowest mileage bike you can for your budget. For £2000 you ought to be able to pick up a nice used 2001/2 RSV mille, that's been well cared for. Lots of Mille's have been neglected and this is when problems arrise. Bike's kept outdoors and no service history are big no no's. Bike's must be kept on Optimates to keep batteries tip top to avoid sprag clutch problems which is expensive. Take your time and find a pampered one from an owner who knows about these bikes. You'll be smiling all the way then fella

Totally agree with LEGS'S comments thru and thru.

Find one that's been well cared for, service history and at the correct Service Intervals ETC.

You wont go far wrong if you follow these tips. IMHO.:thumbup
