Which engine oil?

Guys, the major magazines say that a semi-synthetic oil is best, but the garage insists that a fully synth oil makes no difference.
Can I draw from the benefit of your experiences?

The aprilia clutch's tends not to like changes of oil type as the oil is impregnated into the fibre plates. if it's always run semi stick with it. If it's always run fully synth stick with that.

Unless it's a new clutch then you have the choice. slipping after oil type changes are common place if you look around. Once that happens you will need to strip out the plates.

quick question, if you have no idea what the previous owner/dealer used what do you replace it with ?

silkolene comp4, i did just that.
Alot of garages use comp4
Never had issues with the clutch in 52k miles and when I took it out to replace with an STM slipper, the oe clutch plates were only just showing signs of bluing!
Ck

If you don't know i would plump for semi.

The odds are most dealers go the semi route. all of the Aprilia dealers i know use Silkoline comp4 semi.

It's red (when clean) so you can see how dirty it is as well.

Thanks Spoonz,

Just took a look and it is indeed a nice red colour :thumbup

Motul 15w 50 semi, only ever use Motul myself, mainly because I get it at trade, if its good enough for the gp boys its good enough for me ;)

Used both, semi and fully synth, made no difference to the clutch what so ever

I think so many people worry about what oil to put in their bikes, as long as you change it when you should and put BIKE oil in it, it dont matter what you use TBH
